Record-cold to pour into central US, threaten wheat crop this weekend

A blast of arctic air will bring frigid nights to the central United States and may cause damage to the winter wheat crop over the southern Plains this weekend.
What is likely to be the coldest blast of air for the balance of the spring is set to plunge southeastward across the Plains, Great Lakes and Mississippi Valley this weekend.
Temperatures are projected to drop into the single digits to near zero Fahrenheit over parts of the northern Plains and the Upper Midwest this weekend.

Lows in the teens to lower 20s will be common farther south and east over the Plains to the middle Mississippi and Ohio valleys.
"Twenty-four degrees is a critical temperature for significant damage to wheat in the jointing stage,"

with sufficient warmth in recent weeks, winter wheat in portions of western Oklahoma and northwestern Texas are is at the jointing stage and will be at risk for damage due to a hard freeze this weekend

this is life seven two more left for the winter wheat crop. If it does this again in two weeks it's a game changer.

The wheat crops will be just fine, they will come through with flying colors. The ratings are terrible but they will still pull of a whopper.

The crop looked ugly three weeks ago and the little bit of rain didn't really help much. Now cold at jointing the seed is almost out. Frost this time so-so but go cold for another two weeks and it gets interesting. Also northern boys like wheat in the ground in another two weeks, Ah snow is on the ground yet and more on its way and cold.

That's ok. It is going up to 40C or more in other parts of the world for the foreseeable future. The world is burning up!

Wow - I guess that carbon tax is working! Hope they don't put a tariff on our weather.

Wonder what that scholar DiCaprio would have to say had he been filming in Calgary this year?
Where is Hollywood now? Spring break on their yachts.
Jet to a foreign country, sniff the air and declare, "your shithole country is responsible for my scorched estate". Prime Minister Tooth Fairy leverages it to higher ratings.
Is there enough common sense left in the world to stand up to these people?

Pay the world because Canada is making it hot. Or should it be that the world should pay Canada for remaining cold for its well being.

Either way, we will pay because shortly it will be recorded in print that last week's weather for the prairies was the warmest in modern times. Wait for it, it will happen.

.....but nice to see the recent up turn in MGEX wheat. That last fall made me pretty nauseous. Better get off the ride near the top of the next peak, can someone tell me when that is. A virtual rollercoaster ride, where you can't see what's coming like a real roller coaster ride.

Not for the faint of heart or anyone who knows better....

I thought dry soil conditions might get the speculators bidding up prices. Now it looks like it might be the prospect of late, late seeding for a portion of the prairies that could give prices a boost.
If the two week forecast for here is right I honestly would not even guess when seeding will begin. Mid May?
