This is just another cut to rural Saskatchewan like cutting hospitals and schools.
Same old Lame old NDP talking points.

Find me 500 people in SK who have actually been impacted by the "loss" of STC. You can't do it because they don't exist. For most communities better more convenient less expensive private services have already sprung up. For the few individuals that actually were impacted that's too bad but if you're old and infirm and broke then probably you can't continue to live in East Overshoe. Its sad but its a reality. Personally I'd prefer to live on a private island in the Caribbean with my family surrounding me but that isn't going to happen either.

And forget the sob story about cutting health service - SK party has added health services by any measure you want to choose - people, facilities or dollars.

I ve been impacted no bus service for parts major pain in the ass where I am.
They should have did things to cut cost for sure but not totally out.
Like everything else you have to decide if your going to provide services to outer areas with less population and make it work that is if you value the settlements that exist. If you don't value the lower populated areas then you cut services.

But later on when resources get developed or want to be developed how many times is the reply well there is no one living there no infrastructure etc etc.

It was a stupid desperate move all part of the fact they had no way to cover up the debt that they lied about in the last election. If you don't believe it get some interview clips pre election where we didn't even think we had a deficit and now it's getting worse each budget as the scam to hide it can't be done.

Wall wasn't truthful about the mismanagement and that's why stc is done.

We used the bus for parts delivery because it delivered on the weekend and it provided good service at a reasonable cost. It has not been replaced. There was lots of freight shipped to numerous businesses. So many many users. The passenger service is gone from many small towns and will never return.

I can make the same argument about many hardly used roads in SW Saskatchewan. Should we rip them up and farm them because we could save 10s of millions? Because that is the logic of your argument.

So you are in favour of making it harder for seniors to live in rural Saskatchewan? Another nail in the coffin of small towns with no services and no transportation options for seniors.

Thought it sucked when stc shut down, but now there are others stepping in. Had to go to bus depot to pick up parts before, now they are dropped off at my door.

That was ROY and his NDP crew.

Exactly. I can't believe anyone would seriously try to defend STC based on freight service. There's a ton of freight options. There may be the occasional senior who can't get to a doctor in Regina/Saskatoon as conveniently as they could before but freight - gimme a break.

You still haven't addressed the core of my argument which is why is it okay to subsidize the road system as a service at a great cost to all taxpayers, but not provide a relatively small subsidy to public transport?

Should we cut all services to rural Saskatchewan that don't pay their own way? That seems to be the thinking behind this move to cut STC.

Ya... I never got that either...

Rural people like voting for parties that promise to end subsidies... however in the prairies that would mean ending power, gas, phone and highway infrastructure...

It can be argued highways are used for commerce and thus required to produce GDP (as are rail tracks which kinda disappeared)...

However one has to question some of the routes that they decided to turn into major highways in this province... LOL.

Public transportation is good... and I don't think the saves justified scrapping STC. My mom used to take the bus to Stoon for appointments, now we have to drive her to all of them.

Public transport needs to be improved, IMHO. Having a 4500lb truck driving around a 150lb person is a terrible waste of resources.
