    Hunter Harrison

I just saw on twitter that Hunter Harrison has died at the age of 73 from an "unexpectedly severe complications" from a recent illness.

Any one know where Tom is?

Since he made his appearance in Canada in 1998, He has ruined a lot of railway workers lives at CN AND CP, cost shippers, farmers and customers millions in their businesses while making himself super rich and some shareholders and hedge fund managers in New York much much richer.
Nothing wrong with rich, but when you run a duopoly and charge and do what you want, and dictate to the Government lots get hurt. Sad situation...even brought a former top Royal Bank President to tears when he was the Chairman of CP Board as the American hedge fund manager Ackman took over a few years back.....and for what? Railway service still is terrible as the customer is still treated as a tool for the utility to prosper.

Seen a couple of short news stories and they made reference to how Hunter's management was beneficial to shareholders, adversarial towards unions and I haven't heard a word yet about shippers.

Kinda early yet....there will probably be more in depth stories to come.

****er Harrison. ...what can you say about a guy that set an exporting nation back 40 years?

Sure ....good for shareholders that can't see that infrastructure costs for highways exploded because of the likes of him....

Meanwhile in the same time period all our other competitors made infrastructure not shareholders for exports a priority. ... although ultimately the shareholders gain value....

Canadians don't see it that way...

How is it that truckers can make it from Regina to Calgary in a day with the worry of other drivers weather road conditions etc but a train might take two days or longer on guided rails?

I must say there hasn't been an improvement in the ability of railways to perform better just charge more....

Open Running Rites - only answer. Farmers can run a railway company, in the off-season when grain needs to mooooove.
