    Canada and fighter jets

The ongoing saga of Canada trying to buy new fighter jets for the past 35 or 40 years..... Today the National Post is reporting that Canada scraps plans to buy jets from Boeing and will buy used Australian F-18 instead.
Australia must have got new planes if they are selling their old planes?
We bought used subs from England and we all know how that ended.

I think those subs burnt up before they even made it half way here. Guess they had the 50 feet or 50 seconds warranty

          Many countries license build aircraft...

Why doesn't bombardier retool and build some license built Mirage or typhoons?

Jobs for Canada. Money stays in Canada...

          Seems like a win win

ExActly why aren't they built right here?

Maybe easier to take subsidies and give other countries the break?

Wait a second let's do it the Canadian way, give bombardier the contract to build overpriced planes for the airforce, then give them dollars to stay afloat. Don't forget they have to run on solar power, just have to run sunny days only, no bigee. Who needs missiles, they could install bubble makers instead to spread colorful bubbles and best wishes to all other countries friend or foe. Bombs? No could just drop pamphlets about human rights and equality for everyone.

It may already be in the works!

Actually, there was a proposal by Bourdeau Industries in 2012 to build an updated version of the Avro Arrow in Canada. It was rejected by the Harper government as too expensive and would take to long to redesign, test, and build a new fighter that would meet our needs, especially given the relatively few fighters that Canada needs. The National Post ran a story about it. If I remember right Mulroney had a deal to buy top of the line fighters but then lost the election to Chretien. Chretien threw the deal out but then changed his mind a few years later so he called back the company but the price had jumped up a to almost double so he cancelled again. Maybe I remember wrong?

Mallee might know what Australia replaced the F-18 with?

We are basically defenseless against any major threat anyway, regardless of what we do ....anything we do on the world stage is window dressing anyway(military equipment wise). Living in the shadow of the military giant has been our defense strategy
