Big oil rips off Canada. Is Canada a third world country?

Of the major oil producing countries Canada get less for oil royalties than other countries even third world countries. Harper, Trudeau, and Notley take pride in getting less for our oil than many third world countries. Why doesn't Canada have a trillion dollar trust fund like Norway? What are our plans for the future? We are leaving a polluted mess for our children and grandchildren?

Look at the mess the minister of finance has gotten himself into and there's your answer. Look at what Redford did to Alberta, Boyd, Mulroney, Chretien - need more evidence?

But the oil companies need low taxes and royalties or they will pull up and move away. LOL Yep we are petro state that lets the oil companies make policy. Shamefull

"Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government and the provinces also continue to give $3.3 billion in yearly subsidies to fossil fuel producers in the country, despite having pledged to phase them out."

"The countries where oil companies paid higher rates of taxes, royalties and fees per barrel in 2016 include Nigeria, Indonesia, Ivory Coast and the UK."

Lower than Nigeria!! Are we ****ing stupid!

Alberta NDP government just did a royalty review comparing it royalty levels to other jurisdictions. This is a decidedly left leaning government that concluded Alberta's royalty rates were competitive. Integrity and Chucky are you saying your left leaning buddies were wrong?!

Except we have the highest drilling and production costs in the world.

Add those to royalties and then taxation (which we have the highest in the world pretty much)

Could that have something to do with $10,000/week because those poor baby can't sleep in their own bed every night, and o yes it gets cold in this country, and they didn't put the oil under your door step so you have to leave home to work. Is that why we have the highest costs??

Yup. But I blame the $5000 a week anti-whiney old guy bonus more than the $10,000 salary.

                    Meh.
What royalties? You mean the Brad Wall Viking royalties? By the time those wells start paying royalties the wells are in full decline mode and we aren't even talking about the inner well frack hits.
Bradley gaver away for short term activity. Worst part is the drilling jobs were all Alberta guys. Transfer payment is all this is.

If we re all in for morneau being investigated for benefitting from his actions you have to be all the way in for investigating who got oil shares or other benefits from allowing the oil industry to work here for peanuts while politicians were benefitting. Same rules need to be applied to alll.

that game plan was decided by alberta a long time ago.
                        come on in take it all , is what they said ;
sask on the other hand held out for more.
and it backfired on sask. because the development went to alberta.
so here we are at the bottom
like i said before the conservatives never think very far ahead.
sask and alberta could have both won.
                        a race to the bottom

Oilmen just played the premiers off each other because western Canada has had a lot of stupid premiers that don't know better. ...

It's always been the best strategy to threaten to leave the province. ...

exactly. in the end romanow blinked, had too for the sake of the province.
they just were too dumb in alberta to clue in.
that they were needlessly giving it away.

sask lost because we did not get the early development.
it was a good party for wall , 100$ oil
                            for a while.
and to show that the lowest royalty is the law .
wall , tried to steal the business from alberta, when the NDP got elected there.

                            just plain dumb

Wall begged the oil industry to come to Saskatchewan. ...don't you remember the letter writing campaign he did along with the perks he was offering up.....and to pay for those perks he taxed insurance premiums....
