Or maybe your perception of Trudeau is just wrong?

Grassfarmer, to justify my opinion of Justin Trudeau as an incompetent moron I will use his latest folly, the changes to small business taxes.

It appears that taxing passive income more aggressively was where they felt they could gain the most revenue. So I talked to my accountant to see how it is taxed presently. At present investment income held under the corporation is taxed at 40%. When you take this money out of the corporation it is taxed at the applicable personal rate but when you do this roughly 60% of the corporate tax you payed on your investment income is credited back to you. So let's pretend your personal income is over $200000 and you are taxed at the highest federal rate of 33%. If you had $100000 of corporate investment income you would pay $40000 corporate tax. If you take that out personally you would pay $33000 personal tax but the corporation would get a $24000 dollar refund. In the end you would pay $49000 tax or 49%. The government wanted to end the refund so effectively you would pay 73%, keep in mind no provincial tax has been applied yet. I went through this because the top personal tax rate is 33%. Small business was already paying 49%, a higher rate but the idiots in Ottawa don't think that is enough.

As for why I think this shows Trudeau is a moron. When they started the proposals on tax changes to small business best case scenario was $1 billion in new revenue. Where are we now? They have promised to cut the rate to 9% which will reduce revenues by $1 billion per year. They have changed the passive income proposal to allow $50000 per year of passive income before the changes kick in and they have backed away on the changes to capital gains. At the same time Bill Morneau has had his reputation diminished due to his questionable handling of his personal financial affairs. Trudeau is good at virtue-signalling but totally incompetent at actually accomplishing anything. In the end a proposal to increase revenues will reduce revenues and what is really scary is that these same bungling fools are negotiating Nafta!!!

Modern political atmosphere = A drama teacher virtue signalling and spending other people's $ like a drunken sailor on causes that aren't a priority.

Give your head a shake if you think Amazon will come to Toronto like the CBC is cheering on. High taxes, carbon taxes, high energy costs are not attractive for any business.
