All the major car companies are planning to sell more and more electric and fuel cell cars. Clean energy is becoming more important by the day. Toyota has said that it will be zero carbon emmisions company by 2050 in the production of zero carbon emission cars using fuel cells. Do you really think that investing 15 billion in a pipeline to move western Canadian oil to eastern refineries is a good investment? Trans Canada doesn't. Yes Canada should be self sufficient in energy plus the technology to move towards a low carbon future using clean and low cost renewables. Once low cost storage of renewable energy is developed along with hydrogen fuel cells, either one or both along with other energy options will likely make make fossil energy sources go the way of the dinosaurs. How soon this happens is unpredictable. But change is already underway. How many of our grandparents and parents who farmed with horses had any idea of what technology their children and grandchildren would be using in 2017? Zero.

You do realize hydrogen fuel cells in tractors have been around since the 30s?

A lot of idealistic talk but oil is used for a lot more than fuel for a car. Didn't realize they had Laker and international shipping vessels running on solar yet. And people like you (sjw liberals encirowariors etc) won't let them go nuclear.

If all your talk about the pipeline is true... Why is there trillions in oil and gas investment in other countries ? Why are the Americans building all these pipes?

Cars shouldn't run on oil in cities. In fact they shouldn't have cars in cities. 3000 lbs of steel and plastic to move a 200 lbs body around spending as much time sitting in traffic idling as moving. Complete waste.

However unless you plan on getting rid of plastics steel synthetic fabrics polymers, petroleum distillate,
And even carbon fiber... The world will need fossil fuels.

Agreed cars in cities are not needed except we have designed our cities around cars. How this transition all plays out is unpredictable. We will still need oil for other uses but not likely for personal transportation. A famous biologist from Harvard, Wilson said that if all the worlds people wanted the same standard of living as North America we would need 9 more planets! The way we use and waste resources like fossil energy is not sustainable,

Taking away cars in the cities..... not much chance of that happening. That's not considered a luxury here. Good luck plugging in millions of cars into the electrical grid. Now where is the forward thinking governments on that one. That will take a lot more infrastructure investment and power requirements. Wasn't that long ago Toronto had blackouts during a hot spell.

          chucky, please define "clean energy".

Make sure you start with the first step in producing each of the components.

And then finish with the disposal of the spent and degraded flotsam and jetsam.

          I'll wait...

Maybe those solar panels being built in China in factories powered by coal power plants. Is that considered green.

and probably using free child labour in those dirty plants , tree huggers here are so f#$king stupid

Make sure a greenie tells you the GHG emissions required to produce just the batteries for an electric car. (It's equivalent to 8 years of comparable car driving with a gasoline powered engine.) 🙈

Than there is the pesky detail about how the power was generated that flows through their magical electrical cord to charge the magical batteries.....is there car actually being powered by coal, natural gas, wind, solar, unicorns on a treadmill...... 🙈

Yes getting a detailed list of all components for green energy would be great and maybe scary.
Wonder if those giant concrete pads under windmills are made from green sources??

I agree with a lot of your post... But that swedish study is complete bullshit.

At 15k miles a year it should be about 2.5 years... The question is how long does a Tesla battery last, how much co2 is required to rebuild it, and how many other pollutants are released in the process.

Plus let's face it... An electric car in Saskatchewan in winter? You'll use as much power heating the cabin as you do driving (heat is a neat side feature of IC engines in cold climates...)
