Eastern Canada needs a million bbl a day. If we can ship it from Western Canada why the hell are we importing it????

Can easily up production by that much create jobs and create a trade surplus.


However environment idiots believe not using our oil and instead burning fuel in ships to bring the oil in from Saudi Arabia is better... Because they have better environment standards? LOL.

They use the excuse of saving one seal or a polar bear in the environmental b/S and sprinkle in bad economic fairy dust to the Eco nuts . They want their cake and eat it too. And they will get it b/c JT will alow it , just like his dad ... er step dad .

I think we need to face the reality that with the new forecasts for lower growth of oil sands production because of low prices, the Energy East pipeline is not needed, nor is a good investment even if it is good idea to be self sufficient and cut imports into eastern Canada. There is no need to build surplus pipeline capacity that won't pay for itself.

The opinion piece I posted from the CD Howe Institute says as much, along with the renewed interest in using the existing pipeline for natural gas.

It is a huge investment that may have never paid for itself.

All the other arguments are mostly political. I don't buy into the arguments that we are peasants in the west. Incomes especially in Alberta are higher.

I agree that it is pure politics but I have a different outlook. This is all about getting re-elected in 2019. Trudeau does not want the approval of energy east hanging over his head during the campaign. He is after more seats in Quebec. He is willing to sacrifice the 4 seats in Alberta. He also realizes he will lose some seats in BC, combination of Transmountain approval and the new NDP leader Jagmeet Singh. He is doubling down on eastern Canadians votes at the expense of western Canada. He used the change in NEB rules to do his dirty work. Pure politics nothing to do with economics!!!!
