    Protien in Wheat

Tried a nosed in sample today . we have never had protien lower than 12.5 . this is also titanium wheat that was 1.6 px higher than unity on same quarter, all things equal , last year. this sample today was 11.4 px . Hope it gets better. what are others getting ?

13.1 & 13.7, I was expecting much higher as dry as it was. Maybe it rooted down and not much sideways toward the midrow? We've had wetter years with as much applied N that produced higher px wheat.

Most wheat in this area 12%. Our farm has a range of 13.6 to the 15.2 in the field today. Our wheat is Plentiful whereas the most grown variety by far here is Brandon,

Falling numbers on the low px Brandon are on the low side yet no sprouting.

Maybe the soil microbes died of thirst or went dormant and didn't convert organic matter to ammonium and nitrates. It was pretty dry here in the Slum of the Ghetto. I don't imagine anything leached away!

The elevator guys test our wheat, px is higher than they're seeing and they say, "yes, but the other guys are getting bushels". Hahaha.

I don't know why there's a difference. We double shoot with fertilizer an inch to the side and an inch and a half below the seed. There is lot of broadcast N done now here. Was that the difference or a combination of variety, fertilizer, seeding date?

Hmmm , we had Nrandon and Plentiful in the same field . Will have to check what proteins were .
Brandon far easier to thrash .
Plentiful had more whitecaps even after tightening concave to zero .
Brandon does have a lot more leafy material though , puts a load on the sieves like barley .
Had zero returns in the Brandon and a fair amount in the Plentiful.
Got one more 1/2 section of Plentiful to do yet . Time will tell here

Most of ours was Brandon . We had 12.5 on one field and 13.5 to 14.5 pro on the rest

We grew Plentiful and Stettler side by side. Stettler out yielded by 3-4 bu.. Also filled in better and gave more shade to the ground. Felt it harvested a bit easier also..

Plentiful was definitely harder to thresh. We found (in our fields) it had weak legs and there was a lot of lodged areas. We grew it for the higher premium from Warburton. From the anecdotal around it doesn't yield as high as Brandon, but anecdotal reports are sketchy.

One pail of wheat the neighbor had ranged from 13.6-15.3

101, yup , like guessing how many gum balls in a jar .
It's unbelievable that this still happens
But it does and the only thing you can do is send samples to Stoon
