Cracked rims

How many if you have had cracked combine rims?

I noticed mine because I kept losing air on the inside dual....

Why do the manufacturers have engineers. ...and why does it matter how old a combine is ?


At 1500 hours rims shouldn't be failing.....

Just another expense for no good reason....

And I don't want to hear it's the way it's driven. ...combines are made to go back and forth. .....I usually make teardrops at the headlands to ease the stress ....but shouldn't matter it should be able to handle the stress....


The cracks is from the valve stem hole....not the first I have heard....but still must be a rim production problem....

Yep right at valve stem. Weld and grind and throw a tube in been fine ever since.

But why does this have to be the farmers expense.....in the auto industry their would be a recall at the manufacturer's expense.

The ****ing air bag thing broke the company....I don't want that but I can't be nickelled and dimed to the poor house.

I assume they source their rims from somewhere else.... sounds like they're too light for the application.

Where are they cracking on yours bucket?

Just a word of caution never weld on a rim with the inflated tire still mounted!

I believe Titan aka Goodyear makes most of the rims. I could be wrong but have seen it stamped before.

I think it is very common. We have had nearly every combine with that trouble. Rears right?

Must mean you are gettin some full hoppers!

Junk rims for sure. Had a Deere tractor cracking front rims where tabs were welded to hold centre plate. Replaced one and it cracked as well. So I dismounted the rim and ground out the crack outside and inside and went past the crack a bit. Then I welded with 7018 but made sure to peen the crap out of it after each pass. But this case I think the metal was failing at the welds. My dad had trouble years ago with his versatiles cracking where the bead set but when you hang a grader wing off the side it adds lots of stress.

Cracked out the bead on front of our 1660 combine. 24.5-32. Busted the bead, drilled beyond the extent of the crack and ground out the remainder. Welded up. Rim cracked twice more in two spots. Blamed it on bouncing over deadfurrows... finally got tired of welding and bought a used one off a 1480. Painted it silver haven't had an issue since..

Seems like when one crack shows up, more are waiting.

Cracked another rim on the combine. Bead nearly blew right off... sent dad to Grafton coupler for another used One, and came to leader for a new tire. Local guy here is hooked up with unverferth now instead of titan for all his new rims. Has anyone had any experience with these? Pretty much all I've seen are titan rims and they're JUNK much like their tires!
