    The Truth.......Whose science is pseudoscience.

I normally just lurk on this site, but reading post after post of people claiming this study or that one is correct and those that believe otherwise are morons I have given in to the urge to throw in my two cents.

I believe in being pragmatic, really from a farm business perspective why do we really need to know or care about what is actually correct when it comes to climate science, organics, hormones or any of the other issues that our consumers have taken up. What really matters is what the consumer thinks is real and how they will react to their perceptions. Trying figure out what is true scientifically when there are conficting studies is a waste of time. Even if you have an unbiased result, newer and better science could eazily change it. Even more useless is trying to change consumers minds once they have picked up an idea. Some where I read that once people hear something repeated as fact 4 times, the majority will believe it be true wheather it is false or not. Even if they are shown conficting information they will be incredibly resistant to give up what they believe is true.

As producers our resources are best spent adapting to change as it happens and as new technolgy is available. But most importantly, taking advantage of what ever popular craze the consumer is on, wheather it is illogical and unfounded or not. If they believe it enough to pay for it, then grow it, sell it to them and smile all the way to the bank......

The only place I would draw the line is where I knew with any degree of certainty It would harm someone.......... (oh, oh, now there is a problem with malt barley, distillers grains, tobacco and marijuana and hey maybe red meat)..............

You are right - it's all relative, I think...

Pragmatism really helps in situation like this -

"There was a faith-healer of Deal
Who said, Although pain isn’t real,
If I sit on a pin
        And it punctures my skin,
        I dislike what I fancy I feel."

          Irish blonde...

An attractive blonde from Cork , Ireland , arrived at the casino. She
seemed a little intoxicated and bet twenty thousand dollars in a
          single roll of the dice.

She said, "I hope you don't mind, but I feel much luckier when I'm
completely nude." With that, she stripped from the neck down, rolled
the dice and with an Irish brogue yelled, "Come on, baby, Mama needs
          new clothes!"

As the dice came to a stop, she jumped up and down and squealed. "Yes!
Yes! I won, I won!" She hugged each of the dealers, picked up her
winnings and her clothes and quickly departed.

The dealers stared at each other dumbfounded.

Finally, one of them asked, "What did she roll?"
The other answered, "I don't know - I thought you were watching."

          MORAL OF THE STORY

          Not all Irish are drunks,
          not all blondes are dumb,
          ...but all men...are men!
