Well the count down begins to plant 2017. For us we still some snow in the bushes and tree lines. Back roads are still plugged but days away from opening. Main grids have soft spots already forming and I wish our RM would grade the roads soon since they are the shits.

The land Jockey is almost done and it seems our new Arrivals are going to farm the land they purchased. Alberta guys moving to Saskatchewan. They are paying top dollar for the property and the move is on. One guy did purchase a large block quite aways north of us (5000 acres ) from Ontario. Ah those chicken farmers. Our acreage will be down some 500 acres thanks to the relocation program Alberta is running. I guess they know how to make a go of it on three quarters. Good luck in your new farm. Did find 2200 more acres but why drive some 42 miles for more work. Let the young guys fight over it.

So yes 9500 is the plan for plant 2017.

As I said here is the seeding plans for this year with one swing crop.

Canola 4200 acres. 3000 liberty and 1000 Pioneer RR.
Peas 800 acres all Meadows except the seed Amarillo.
HRS 4000 Acres All the new AC Brandon.
Barley for Malt, Ha HA 500 acres Copeland.

Swing crop is Oats have seed for 500 acres either peas down 150 acres or Canola down 150 on field concern.

What are others thinking as the big day coming up for seeded acreage is April 21. Have you been phoned.
Spring harvest will be happening for a few but funny all the wind this spring has taken quite a bit of yield away from Spring wheat and Barley harvest. Any Oats is flat on ground and non salvageable. Canola all done last fall very little in area if any.

What the seed sample looks like.

So as we get close to Easter who else is thinking this weather is to good to be true. Will it be a Easter storm of the Century. Time will tell.

Be safe out their its just a crop.

Some area have so much out its hard to see how any will make it. The oats most know which farm it came from and the new renter will burn. Why try for flat muddy ugly oats.

The wheat i drive by every day and it has caught my curiosity all winter so yesterday i stopped and walked in was shocked by how much had shelled over winter from rain.

But take a drive its amazing whats still out their and some will be burnt.

It was maybe raining in Hawaii but unlikely winter rainfall in SK did the damage.

Less water this year after 4 years of higher than average run off.
Run off was stopped at started again a few times but very little overall.
Very little crop out here, most north , west and south. Good luck to those guys .
A few harrows scratching around just to check it out before the weekend cool off.
                  Light showers forecast here.
Wind and warm temps dried off soil surface yesterday.
Winter annuals greening up on fields not sprayed last fall.
Trying to get a few projects done while the weather is great
                  1. Pea seed treater:
no more G3 and augers.... hopefully it works as expected
                  2. Corn planter :

Replacing all discs arm bushings ... not a fun job but it's gotta get done .
Did a deal yesterday on a 3115 Horsch planter to do 500-600 ac canola , some soybeans and some custom corn .
On board sectional liquid phos and individual row shut off for seed. These planters are designed to seed at 8-10 mph , target 2 to 2.5 lbs / ac . Very impressed with what we seen last year in North Dakota.
Will be splitting a few fields with our current drill and taking yields with weigh wagon, both canola and soybeans.
The ole JD's are good but maintaining them is getting costly and time consuming and can't do canola on 30".
