    Spring run-off....

Is pretty much done here.... by the end of March! There was enough snow to create potholes(where there can be) across the farm but not near as bad as it could be. We froze in kinda wet late last fall(not anywhere near as bad as some hard hit areas but there was real good soil moisture compared to how dry it has been going into winter some other years). When the frost comes out some water will disappear on the light land but the clay base land will have potholes.

But I take little for granted... we started out last year with adequate soil moisture in spring but when those hot dry hurricane winds start blowing with low relative humidity conditions it doesn't take long to go from adequate to yikes is the canola and flax going to germinate! Shallow seeding in those conditions is a bit nerve wracking.

We should probably be using variable rate technology with single shank sectional control and those problems would be alleviated... ;-)

Its just starting here and if it warms up this weekend the water will be running. Most years the water will start running between the 7-10 of April. As the snow melts all the ruts are showing up to remind you of all the repair work to do and it is super wet.
Even as wet as it is if you have to do some tillage to fix ruts and it is hot and windy the top will dry so fast it will surprise you. On the other hand if it rains at all in May it will be hard to get the crop in!

30 percent snow cover yet, that, after 2 weeks of warm weather and little if any frost overnight. Water absolutely everywhere, and the snow still remaining will be mostly water. Culverts going full out, and in some cases it's also going over the Municipal road.
Agree seldomseen, need hot and dry to get into the fields for preplant work and to dry what highland there is. Any rain and we'll be SOL, just like 2011.

Barring above normal April precipitation, should get an early start to field work.
Surprisingly little runoff from snowpack here in eastern Sask area that has seen high water table and excess moisture past few years.
