    New cash crop adding revenue

Marijuana will be legalized by July 1/2018, it's about time. More money for all levels of government. Individuals will be able to grow four plants for personal consumption. Win win situation for all!

I don't know if I'm totally in favor of this. Pros and Cons. Maybe safer/cleaner(unlaced) source of pot available. Maybe lower crime. Maybe curb the illegal black market. I don't know if making it more available is good.... do we need more people fogged out. Do we need greater access so our youth can get it easier even though it will likely be illegal for them to have it but so is booze. What about driving or operating machinery or what ever under the influence...is there a quick roadside test available yet?

The market exists whether legal or illegal but will that market get bigger with easier access?

It's so available now it's ridiculous. Making it legal may actually make pot less available to those not old enough or otherwise not able to buy it. It sounds like the proposed penalties for illegal possession or trafficking will be big.

Currently Child Protective Services will nearly confiscate your car and take your child if your caught smoking a cigarette in a car with your kid. How will they respond when both parents are smoking dope in the house with kids? Kids don't taste the alcohol when you have a drink in front of them, but they will be inhaling the pot smoke.
We're so worried about someone drinking a pop or talking on a cell phone in the car, yet we're legalizing pot before having a method of testing for impairment of dope smoking.
For all those who tout science so much, Scientists say the brain is still developing till the age of 25, yet our government will legalize it at 21? or is the Liberal position 18 years of age.
This will forever change society, there's no going back.

Last November at the hemp conference there was a Manitoba Harvest rep named Preet. He travelled around doing research and his conclusion was The USA and China will run away with this market. Health Canada will continue to big down the legalization with bureaucracy until there are only crumbs left. This will affect the BC grow industry and Industrial hemp in Canada.

In ten years when many more jobs will be done by robots, they'll have to give us something to pass the days with. Smoken' pot will mellow the rubes.

I guess it will be another source of income for the government to waste, but the good part is I won't have to pay that tax! The only down side will be the dumbing down of society.

Everyone seems to be concerned about "smoking " the stuff. That will be the least preferable way to get your thrill. Imagine going to Tims for a coffee and doughnut. That special row of doughnuts in the middle will be the ones you will want. Or try and keep your kids out of the "special" row of cookies at McDonald's. Stop at your local convienance store and getting a coke and a bag of "chips". The possibilities of exploiting legal pot will be absolutely endless. Smoking it will be the least of our worries

Far too many equate pot with alcohol - "it's no more of a social issue than alcohol - and alcohol is legal. why not legalize pot too?"

Socially, they are quite different. For the vast majority of us, alcohol is consumed later in the day - even after work (most of us). Hell, my experience is that people don't even have a drink at a business lunch anymore. (20 years ago, it would be odd NOT to have a couple at a business lunch. 40 years ago, you were expected to have at least three!)

But pot is different. Many "enthusiasts" start their day with one or two joints. So they are stoned when they get to work. And then some will have one or two during the day too.

Making it legal will make its current use patterns more socially acceptable. Read that as saying lower productivity. And already studies are showing that fatal accidents involving driving "drugged" are more common than those involving driving drunk.

Culturally, there is social pressure to put off any drinking until after hours. There is no such cultural equivalent with marijuana. Quite the opposite.

Not that making it legal will make things worse - those that want it can get it now. Just thinking that if we accept it as it is - and accept how its being used - then we're no further ahead socially.
