    Sask Budget

Just listening to Brad Wall on John Gormly live and doing some reading between the lines.

    1. Education taxes on farm property frozen for years so will likely go up, how much????

    2. Gas/diesel tax rebate. Probably gone.

    3. Crop insurance premiums going up to reflect high payouts due to poor harvest conditions last fall.

4.PST on exempt items like restaurant meals and food. Probably start with restaurant meals.

I am sure there are others as well.

Politicians and urban taxpayers are seeing all the new bins, shops and equipment being sold for huge dollars and seeing land values rising faster than inflation. The assumption being that farmers are doing really well now and should be paying more taxes.

With almost all of our costs built in and fixed it will be a struggle for many to take on lot of new expenses.

I don't have a solution except for really watching our expenses and cutting spending till all of our suppliers start noticing. Also higher taxes almost never increase government revenues, it simply restricts the economy to a new level such that tax revenue stays the same.

Sure would be nice if politicians saved some in good times.

Yes they Need to put this govt on a DIET. Biggest government we've ever had with more assistants and exec assistants etc etc (good way to pay off your friends though)
Use of Consultants has gone thru the f$$kin Roof
They flew consultants back and forth from Toronto to do an energy audit on small town hockey rinks !! We were one of them ,I just about blew a gasket when they told me they came to visit a couple rinks and then back to T.O. Surely sask power could have done this.

I was told years ago, long before Brad, that rebates on gas and diesel were on the blocks. Can't believe it has lasted this long.

If crop insurance paid out as they were blaming the deficit on.....pretty sure there are a lot of unhappy farmers in or out of crop insurance. ....asking farmers to pay for roads through the fuel tax exemption is just foolish....they had a pretty good run to fix the roads.....

The 10 million that disappeared thru the GTH would have built a few roads. ....and that theft was probably the tip of the iceberg.

Lentils wheat durum prices are still in the shitter if you do real dollar comparisons.....maybe have a look at the growth in the cities of Regina and Saskatoon for some tax dollars...that's where the new schools are built....not in rural sask.

Can you imagine the amount of money the Sask government could have saved had they just reduced the speed and installed traffic lights in all the intersections they're building overpasses and bypasses through. And buckets favorite colossal coliseum. This shit was nothing more than an economy stimulator..... what happens when those projects end? Back to ****ing reality!

Wall is looking a little uneasy these days. His positive cocky view of the future has taken on a different aura. I am afraid of the tough choices they are going to have to make. This may not be pretty, but couldn't agree more with sumdumguy... why not save a little for a rainy day, they gave up too much in royalty revenue just to entice drilling and such. Spend like drunken sailors then look around as if to say what happened when the economic engine is firing on 3 cylinders instead of 8.

Fasten your seat belts.... Sask could be in for a rough landing.
