    If I remember correctly, the freight component of the deductions from the old CWB days was about $1/bu. Hard to know what it is now or if any of the benefits of the consolidation and rationalization of the grain handling and transportation business has trickled down to the farm gate.

    Maybe we need more active shortlines in this country.... if the BIG TWO only want to do the heavy lifting maybe some of the branch lines could be operated as shortlines and relieve some of the pressure off the roads?

      Maybe somebody can explain too why in the cwb days we would get 4.50 total for a bus. of wht. and the price at port was 9 or 10 dollars?
