well i must say the sight of the new grain terminal east of maymont sask is most impressive. p.h with their archaic facility and viterra poorly planned facilities will be dwarfed compared to what this new plant promises.only the question arises. with all the freedom gained post cwb was their no incentive for local investment in a facility like this. oh well the added competition will be a benefit to farmers.

We had a group trying to get a producer owned terminal built in nearly the exact spot - about ten years ago. There were a number of problems including low interest from CN, poor north south roads(still the case today) and mediocre producer interest. The feasibility study showed the area produced enough grain but barely unless a fair bit from Blaine Lake Leask region could be attracted. The facility plan at that time was not as large and no loop track.
We are going to have a lot of within 40 mile delivery options after this new one gets running. Will they all survive? Crush plants, pulse processors, old flour mills in stoon, malt plant in Biggar, oat mill in Martensville all tend to be higher return options than export terminals. The competition is going to be good. -
