Seems like malt barley may be only bright light in cereal grain complex.
And seems to me next yesr 17 may well be a grind as well.

30 bushels per acre and $350 to $500 per acre cropping land it gets harder each year

$350-$500??????? Please don't tell us that's the land's purchase price. Inputs surely wouldn't be at the high end of $350-$500.

Try $1500-$2500/acre and alot of times MAYBE only double the quoted yeild.

Gluten free diet fad is already fading. The trouble with cereal grains is just that the worlds farmers are too good at producing them and the acreage is expanding every year. Cheap money fueled investment and more consistent large production was the result. So the market will inflict pain until the investment spigot is turned off. Unfortunately there is still a lot of cheap money swirling around. $300 to 500 per acre ground may have me becoming your neighbor as there is no opportunity like that around here.

Shaping up to be a record crop on Canadian prairies from what I hear.
Past few years of high grain prices have encouraged investment in our production capacity.
Growers are wise to have some back up plan to get us through lower demand and surplus production.
For many, Agristability is better than nothing but would not count on it longer term.
United States has revenue insurance and ethanol support but, again, may not be sustainable longer term.
Wonder if Australian growers have anything similar.

Hey Hoppy.... that crayon is the edit button. No need to get rid of it. I think only you can see it on your posts. We each have the option to edit what we post. I don't totally agree but I do use it to correct mistakes. I don't change the context of my post.

Regarding markets... it drives me nuts that some people subscribe to the notion we should be able to accept less for the grain because we grew more. What about the fellow who gets skunked on yield and has to suffer poor prices because everyone else had a banner crop. Even if I grew the banner crop why should I take less? I took the risk, did my part, Mother Nature may have been kind and because I was successful I get penalized? Really?..... Stoopid stoopid system!!!

someone asked about revenue insurance or the likes.
we actually have a few Canadian companies selling insurance quite expensive and very very few do it, think its someone colson??
