    Diet and Nutrition

Not for me to judge what Cotton does. If it works
and makes you feel right and healthier go for it.
Here is a bit of my story and i really don't care what
anyone thinks it has worked well for me and is
probably why i can actually function today as a
    healthy happy human being.
Two years ago weighed 280lbs at 6'2" and 58 years
old. I stopped eating all proscessed food and
actually anything pretty well with a label on it Also
no grains or sugars at all. Dropped carb intake to
50 grams per day only carbs were from fresh
vegetables. I have no idea how many calories per
day i eat because i never keep track. I lost 60 lbs in
6 months and then adjusted same quality carb
intake to roughly 100 grams per day and have
    maintained my weight to today.
I also excercise daily but no high stress stuff and
because i enjoy it. Snowshoe 3 miles per day in
winter and bicycle 10 or walk 4 miles per day in
summer. Do not do this to lose weight but rather to
    tone muscles and feel good.
Long story short no more high blood pressure no
more arthritis no more upset stomach and no more
    Rolaids and no more allergies.
if interested google Primal Blueprint the system i
follow and this should interest farm guys google
Shovelglove to see the fitness program i have just
started to follow, no gym no fancy coaches or
equipment etc just a 12 lb hammer. AS cheap and
    effective as you can get.
I am not defending it nor do i give a shit if you
chew me up and spit me out. It works for me and
    works well.
I also dont have to agree or disagree with cotton's
program but i do believe modern medicine and big
food don't tell us everything about the whole carb
and insulin issue because that is the key to healthy
    living.

the unfortunate thing of our society is
the attemp of grasping at youth made by
the older population after a lifetime of
abusing their bodies thru poor diet and
      negligible cardiac fitness.

      Its like expecting your poorly
      maintained tractor to become better
again by using fuel additives. Best you
can do is slow down the myriad of
diseases caused by our lifestyle of
      excess.

Stuff your doctor won't tell you.

Good for you cotton. You are on the right track to
healthy living. Just remember to adjust when you get
to your target weight. You sound like you are on the
road to healthy living. As they say "live long drop
dead". Thats all we can wish for. Happy New Year to
        everyone

Stuff our doctor won't tell us because, non of them
ever took a class in nutrition, let alone the cutting
          edge research,thats the truth.

Theses poor bastards struggling to loose 2 pounds a
week and eating 220 grams a day in carbs from fruit
          and vegetables,constantly exercising, and not
understanding the insulin spikes and the total futility
of it all,is who i feel sorry for.

2/3rd's of society does not have the metabolic
structure to break down carbs sufficiently enough to
not cause weight gain, its not lethargy or
          gluten.Important point.

And no its not because we don't have the internal
"cardio" of our fore bearer's it's because we eat to
          many carbs.

And no i don't ever plan on coming off it.

so cotton are you still eating just as
            much just cut the carbs?
And exercising more or its 100% just a
change in the way you eat?
since ive given up playing active
football and tennis etc at 35 no 48 ive
added about 40 pounds over the years and
            taken walking bike riding exercise
machines blah blah loose very little
            wieght

You can eat as much as you want as long as you
restrict carbs to 20 grams a day.

Dont exercise during the first week or two, which is
              the killer,your a drug addict coming off a drug,but
when you get over that hump you fill up real quick on
small portions and never feel "that hungry",one of the
              main benefits.

Your body has a constant access to energy, body
fat,so you never suffer from fatigue.

Personally,i over did it on the protein the first few
days in,to much of it as a percent of caloric intake
hurts some people,100 grams(ish) is ballpark.

Cotton: That is good progress. 30 lbs.
is quite a bit of weight as a target.
So much for starch and sugar. I would
be afraid to calculate my carb intake.
Although I've reduced it over the years
I can't imagine getting it down to 20
                grams.
For me, it should be, if I can't
moderate it I should abstain from it,
yea right!!! Good luck with the rest of
                your stay in Ketosis.

I hope no one takes away the message
that you can eat all the protein and fat
you want if you limit carbohydrates.

Energy is energy and your body will
store it, ie you gain weight, if its not
                  used.

If you want to lose weight, eat less
                  than you burn.

Continuing in a state of ketosis, what
cotton is doing, places you in a high
risk state for kidney failure, high
                  cholesterol resulting in cardiac
                  disease, Osteoporosis and kidney stones
caused by high amounts of calcium
getting dumped into your urine. Organ
                  failure from lack of simple
                  carbohydrates. The list goes on.

Several people I know have lost weight on protein focused eating and limiting carbs. They eat a lot of fresh veggies with the protein. They are also combining their food properly as a consequence. It definitely works, interested to see if they stay slim and healthy. Wheat and gluten I agree are very bad for insulin spikes and weight gain. A while back a few posts on the evils of wheat, so you decided to try, Cotton, hope you achieve your goal and stay healthy in 2013.
                      Keep us informed.

so is this a atkins diet? might buy a
                        book and read a little

what are the worst carbs? pasta and
                        potatoes?

healthy body healthy mind, good mind
needed for marketing so its correlated
just thought id add that before someone
says whats this got to do with marketing

cheers all happy new year and cotton

No potatoes, fries, bread, rice, donuts, no dairy,
no pasta. Lots and lots of water. Veggies and
protein galore. Lost 40 ibs in 90 days like this.
Never felt better. Carbs are killers cause we dont
physically work hard enough to burn them
anymore. When i was a roughneck i ate carbs
galore and never gained because i actually
                          worked them off.

WD9. Why would high amounts of Calcium cause
Osteoporosis? I think you may have that
                            backwards.

Half of northern europe is on this now, remember the
butter shortage-a direct result of low carb high fat
                              diet.

Everything you know about diet and nutrition is
                              wrong.
