As every one knows peas have been a disaster in
east sask. to much rain all year. So peas will be
less. Seed cost plus treatment twice close to 100
acre then add phos. Canola seed cost of 58 with
chem then add in 83 fert. Plus second liberty and
    150 min.
Yes their are risks but every once in a while you
have to look outside of the box. Canola has been
slipping and maybe it's another option.
One guy canola soy Winter wheat, That's it for
    2013 1/3 1/3 1/3.
Yield this year, 25 33 30. For the area fields.

SF3 who talked you into putting seed treatment on your beans? Waste of money in my experience. And no yield bump with adding phos with seed. Soys use alot of phos but the amount your putting down with seed wont make a diff to your reserves. IMHO!

Have u seen independant trial data on treated
beans vs non-treated beans? The difference is
unreal. With a seed so sensitive to soil
temperature, treating is a hands down no-brainier.
Seed is going to close to $100/acre this year and
u are going to cheap out on helping insure its
survival and cutting out $5/acre on seed
treatment? Very poor approach to risk managing
        beans. IMHO

No Wd the canola varieties from some companies
are the shits. Sorry l150 is one dud.
Not sure on how much phos to add to the beans,
treating seed in east sask and Manitoba I think is
              a must on beans.

We have bean growing soybeans for 4 yrs now.
Each yr doubling our acres. Variety selection seed
treatment and double innoculation is important.
We have been skipping the phos but using 9-
10lbs of granular innoculant. Our yields have
been from 30ave our first year to 45ave this year.
Early varieties with light sensitivity is a MUST!!!!
We farm on the west side of lake dauphin.
Soybeans are now a major part of our rotation
and will surpass canola in 2013. General rule of
thumb if you grow 40bu canola you only need
27bu beans. Beans also help mellow ground
somewhat like peas and can handle wetter
ground and the heat. Variety selection is key. I
know I am repeating myself but the wrong variety
will leave you with a possible wreck.

How will those yields look at say, oooh, about $8.50/bu. next year this time?

And just how will 8.50 canola look when you pull off a 25 bu crop and you are left paying the ridiculous expenses? I am not yet convinced that beans are the magic answer yet for this area, but I will cautiously try them and go from there. I have grown alot of fababeans here with good success so soys should work here.I said a few years ago canola sucks. More of you are seeing it now.

RBrunel last time I was at your place you were on that beautiful land on the EAST side of lake Dauphin.
