Stubblejumper! Wake up!
Are you comatose or is English your second language?!
You're being presented with a simple calculation that demonstrates clearly that the Canadian prairie economy is poorer by the BILLIONS because of the CWB. And all you can say is that you see no talk of marketing.!!!
Sheesh!!!! Get on the program, man!
We're talking about a huge amount of money here.
Think about it. The spring wheat pool is almost $100/tonne below average. At roughly a tonne per acre, this is equal to $16,000 per quarter. $64,000 per section. A quarter million on 2,500 acres. EACH YEAR.
You're out $100/tonne (below average prices) ANNUALLY and all you want to do is dissect whether we're talking about marketing or not??!!
What part of this is BS?
Go back up six posts - I outline what a free market is. I touch on marketing, but maybe its not clear enough for you. So here's a primer on marketing and what it entails:
1. Deciding what to grow - comparing net returns per acre - entering into contracts with buyers and end users.
2. Deciding what and when to store and what/when to ship.
3. Deciding what, when and how to price. Flat price or basis; futures or options; production contract or DDC; nearby delivery or deferred delivery (assess carrying charges).
4. Deciding who to supply - deciding to develop long term relationships, even with end users, where you need to work at satisfying end-use needs.
5. Deciding on what to invest in on your farm - what do you need to ensure you can deliver on your marketing plans and decisions.
Marketing is all about what to grow, how to grow it, building relationships, making commitments - and then satisfying those commitments.
If you think marketing is picking up the phone and asking for prices, then maybe you do need the CWB.

Chaffmeister,
Fear and greed drive the lefties.
They wouldn't want to allow a neighbour who was willing to work hard and take risk... the opportunity to prosper. THat would not be the communist/lefties way.
Coveting and expecting something for nothing... are an addicting habit... and very hard to break... once the thief is on the dole and tasted the forbidden fruit!
This has nthing to do with logic, economics... or prosperity... you should know better!

Stubble,
What is this?
"none of you so called marketers really wants to market grain"
Please explain what the CWB does?
The best example of price takers is the CWB!
1. Must sell so much each day/period to fit a specific time related plan...
2. No cost based over-rides (specific to my farms needs) to prevent give away dumping...
3. Don't know if they will be around for a day, a year, or a decade... because they decided to rely on government legislation to back a single desk monopoly... instead of customer good will and valued services to assure a business base.
4. CWB Takes resources of the most productive and innovative grain growers... and forces them to cross subsidise many livestock and hobby farmers.
About a close to a business disaster formula as one could dream up. (AND THIS IS MARKETING?)
So... what does a market... and a grower contract growing to supply specific IP requirements of end users... at a specific profit and supply contract actually mean Stubble?
How is what my farm does... any different than what you 'claim' the CWB when it does actually market grain (VS. PRACTICING GIVE AWAYS that were not theirs to give away in the first place)?
WHY EXACTLY AM I and my farm NOT MARKETERS?

For those who are true CWB believers, there is no amount of facts and numbers that can or ever will convince them otherwise.
Its almost like a mental problem. Alot of these believers are otherwise rational good people but the topic of a free market vs the CWB monopoly comes up and their brains turn to mush. You can ask any logical question and they reply with a glazed eye, robotic chant about the CWB premiums.
