Tax on livestock,,,not Venezuela but AB

Taxing cattle for the roads and bridges they damage. Double that after Notley adds a tax for livestock farts.

Idea has been around for over 20 yrs. Large feedlots generate a lot of traffic but are not taxed since they are farm buildings. Road maintenance has to come from somewhere. I guess the government can spend road use fuel taxes on roads but that is probably not happening soon.

It's easy to say feedlots wreck the roads, so they should pay for them. It's not that simple. Some do wreck the roads, but all are going to pay.

Many smaller lots have their entire land base accessible without touching a road, but will still pay this fee. Sure they still need cattle and feed trucked in, but is that any different than the 10000acre farm next door trucking their grain out?
Also, some lots are based on provincial highways, so they never have trucks on county roads.

Feedlots aren't taxed enough, but this one is over the top

as said earlier, the feedlot does not pay much tax on their home quarter and probably nothing on the feedlot. 10000 acre farm pays taxes on roughly 60 quarters. Not the same. If the money stays in the county and only goes for roads, I would have to agree.

not sure about that situation , all I know here is that the hog barns and honey farmers wreck a lot of roads and pay next to sfa for property tax . grain farners can't pay it all ?

Govt got drunk on $147 crude can't pay for bugger all at $30-40 so they hunt everyone else. Every level of govt needs their ass kicked. Color of the lawn sign doesn't mean a thing, they are all the same
