Friday Crop Report on a Thursday!

Well one heck of a nice week went by and finally the frost is starting to come out of the ground in our area. The springs are running plus frost boils in the yard are appearing. Ah its getting close.
In our area north of the Valley guys have the drills in the yard and are working on them. This week we have seen the beginning of the make it black campaign begin. Oats stubble from last fall burns so nice and usually its a end to end of the field burn. Ours is suppose to go up on either Sunday or Saturday depending on the rain coming this weekend. Peas will be planted again on Burnt wheat stubble but that's just before we seed it.
Most have finished or are just finishing cleaning their grain for the 2016 season.
Guys are Jockeying for land as Rumors run wild who is farming what parcel this year and who has left the building.
Fields are still to wet or soft for field work and no one has started any harrow work yet.
South of the valley back to the city one guy was doing flax stubble with heavy harrow. Just maybe put it back in the yard and try later in the week. What a fricking mess. To each his own. One guy by Balgonie on flax actually was going making better job. So Regina to Balgonie is dryer then Balgonie to valley gets wetter and north valley on is wet.
My thinking is next week a bit more action will start in our area. Yesterdays nice winds and heat helped dry out the land. It might actually be a very nice spring for seeding, Fingers crossed.
So to all those who are going great its a awesome feeling to have crop seeded and be going. When its a early start date and things are working its way better than late seeding and under the gun to be done before the month of June.
Take care out their and remember its just a fricking crop that they are going to take and pay you pennies on the dollar for your hard work.

I went on a 7 hour circle drive to the city in our newly NDP free province. wet, wet, wet mostly on my trip. One guy just south of Neepawa had a floater sitting in the field and was cultivating. looked like he was starting a jig saw puzzle in the half round as I drove by.

Drill loaded, starting seeding AC Synergy barley now.

We've been calving for 13 days and are half done. Good luck so far despite shitty weather.

We've got volunteer wheat an inch high so I guess it must be warm enough to grow. This field last had wheat in 2014 - how long does the seed remain viable?

That is the scary part of the new non KVD wheat varieties and PBR. You could be contaminated after seeding and not even know it. Leaving yourself to law suits and liabilities.
