    Wow who's the trucker looking for a new life after doing 500,000- 1M dollar damage to the overpass. Not very professional that's for sure.

    This happens with discouraging regularity.
    Maybe it's time for some sort of sensor. If you are over height red lights start flashing etc. I know it shouldn't be necessary but seems like it is.
    According to one report I heard the damage is between $500000 and 1 million. Apparently they do have some insurance.

      Why should insurance pay for neglect. As a hauler you should know your overall height and plan your route accordingly.

        There is an over height sensor on the #1 highway on the south side of Moose Jaw. It works good. You could install a pile of these around the province for half a million wasted repairing this mistake.

          How about DON"T build stupid sized iron that takes the whole road/highway, weighs crazy, ruts up grids.

              Yea it is ultimately the transporter's responsibility to make sure the load clears bridges and power lines.

              But is there any responsibility to manufacturers for making sure their products clear "standard" infrastructure?

              Or Utilities to make sure their lines are high enough over roadways? Power lines can sag with heavy frost on them, I bet even hot weather can cause a line to sag a bit.

              A local farmer caught a three phase power line when transporting his large drill on a road. There are no clearance signs on the power line, how was he to actually know? He might know the height of the drill in transport but wouldn't know the line height. Maybe the poles on either side of the road need to have clearance heights (with sag error built in)posted on them.

              Maybe manufacturers need to build equipment that fits under MOST "standard" bridges.

              Chicken or Egg?

              If we are going to have to start taking the "scenic route" because of a lack of standards...

                Maybe they should put up a realatively cheap iron structure that knocks the load off the trailer before it gets to the overpass.
                PA has problems with a cheepo overpass that has no tolerance. They close it down ever time something touches it and leave you detouring 10 miles on gravel.
                The lights only stop 99%.

                    Overpass at lloydminster has converted a few combines to open station. Best one a couple years ago this guy just bought a trackhoe and heads her east outta town. Only problem he had the boom forwards over the fifth wheel. One thing he did right was chaining it down cause when it hit the overpass it ripped it off the base and the hoe stayed on the trailer.
