oh , and our old wheat we have been growing , unity, is now NFG. the one to replace it for this spring is over $20 /bu . nothing wrong with this picture is there ???? I guess they need a 300-400% premium plus our check off dollars to make a variety with next to SFA for improvements . there just isn't this kind of profit anymore to fund this kinda horseshit !

They will just keep axing varieties until they get the control they need .

I called this along time ago. Follow the money.
Get rid of varieties that since time began in farming in Canada made money and were adapted for western Canada.
Its bull shit and farmers fell for it. hook line and sinker.

Farmers kept electing the previous gov't with No questions Asked. They knew they could handover anything to their corporate friends and you guys would STILL Vote for them.

Criticism and bashing of seed growers goes back a long way.

No one swallowed anything, hook... line and sinker! This shit was rammed down our throats. Can't wait for the first cheerleader to come on here and tell all us dissenters the only difference between now and then is now the "Owners" of the seed can now prosecute the "buyer" of the brown bagged PBR protected seed.

So the overcharged freight rates that get paid to the research foundation, check off dollars, government funded breeding (public), royalties at the point of purchase isn't enough?

First off the CGC is in charge of delisting varieties, nothing to do with UPOV 91. Secondly it wa already illegal to sell brown bag seed under UPOV 78. Having said that there was no doubt that the Conservatives wanted to reduce their investment in public plant breeding(something I strongly disagreed with) so the implementation of UPOV 91 was more about improving returns to plant breeders. They hoped it would spur more private research and create more breeding companies. In practice it will just increase our seed cost.

Tinfoil hat time... Like SF3 says, follow the money. Some "new" varieties are no better than the last. If some of the more "recent" registrations are being deregistered, how did they pass the test in the first place?
