    PDQ Prices

Just curious how many of you are monitoring pdq prices. Very good regional breakdown in prices including forward months. Also includes grade and protein spreads. Well worth the time to register for and monitor.

Have the prices reflected your community actual ones.

Hope the link works. Have forgotten how to do html.

Nothing another million dollars from the government or checkoff funds can't fix.

Can you not use the regional or provincial average for that matter to compare your local bids too determine whether or not they are competitive. Two locals email prices daily the other I text every day requesting canola; CRSW #2 - 13.5 price for spot and next 4 months - WAPITA.

What or who make up the posted average prices? Are they just made up? I deal with all local buyers, find no use for this site. Sorry for the honesty.

My interest comes from a project that involves using real time prices in a simulation (game if you like) in a grain marketing course. Doing a reality check.

I agree with your comment the Site could do a better job in explaining how the prices are gathered and the role of grain companies.

I also understand averages are not adequate when a farmer is actively pricing - you need to work the phone /contacts. PDQ is likely adequate for just staying informed in less active periods. Grade and protein wheat price information will be useful if accurate.

From an old life, having access to a time series of consistently collected price will be useful in analysis and program development.

                    MBGrower:
The pdq prices are derived from actual cash bids. All major grain companies submit their posted bids every day at 2PM. These bids are aggregated by the regions you see on pdq, and averaged. The buyers / bids represent over 90% of the market. Other buyers are being added over time.

pdq will not replace your interaction with grain buyers, nor should it. the aim was to provide an intermediate source of price information so you can keep tabs on market trends without calling 3-5 buyers every day - or twice a day. (9 times out 10, calls are made to check prices with no intent of selling. pdq was, in part, meant to assist in that price monitoring.

Other uses for this information include providing price references for govt programs, crop insurance, financing, etc. market analysts and advisors will have historical prices that are more robust than before as well.
