Where's the canola carryover?

I agree with Tom. Most farmers are locking their bins and aren't willing sellers. Most in this area have delivered on their DDCs and have their cash flow covered for now.

If basis strengthens some more it might be good strategy to lock the basis though.

Ya bucket the numbers are funny.Week 4 and 5 numbers from CGC grain statistics weekly are off kilter for process elevators.

It's not a bad theory Braveheart but I would be carefully with that. Remember these companies have a lot of good sales with high margin built in. And there is a lot less grain to handle on the prairies. There is no reason that we shouldn't cut into that. I think if we can sit tight till Christmas, these bids or basis level will get considerably better...even in a higher futures market.

Look at he the last time we had supply this low(and that's NOT believing stats can). Lots of 0 or better basis levels.

Cargill crushing plant in Camrose running out of canola as well. They claim it is because of delayed harvest and yards to wet to get trucks in. It is still early in harvest for canola stats can definitely full of shit.

If the onfarm canola carryover was there it was not for sale at the prices on offer. Why would it be for sale now?

That may be true for those with carry forward inventory but some who were out of inventiry at the time prices shot up now may have some to sell, therefore pay more get more.....
