Burbs have you got your Agri***** programs mixed up?

AgriInvest is the blatant government handout to farmers.

Agristability, is the make work program for bureaucrats in Ottawa, Winnipeg, Edmonton, and Melville.

Accountants have made a fortune on
AgriStability, CAIS, AIDA. You forgot them.

Not any more fixed that last week out of Agristability and Agrinvest doesn't cost much at all. Sevenhundred less than last year. Those poor accountants, they are almost like bankers they will think up another scam with their government buddies, just watch.

Well my accountant has earned his fees. In the couple years that our farm received payments, his calculation of the amount we were to receive was 100% accurate from day one.

In both occasions, it took adjustments to get the administration to process it correctly.

I think so many of you were in the dark if you threw numbers on the form and sent them in to see what came back

Got a payout twice. I did it myself both times and was 100% accurate both times.
Other than the first time I had to pay it back due to cwb prices vs off board prices.

I am out of agri-invest now. With crop insurance coverage quite high, it would be
impossible to trigger a payment anymore for my farm.

                Also done accurately myself.
Using the current rules we would have received zip in the one payout year. Going backwards 2 is true for farmers. Their risk is less ours is more, forward for gov'mt.

It would seem odd if the gov't continued to spend on farm insurance programs when were bidding land up to 300 thousand per quarter and paying stupid rent. I guess tax payers have lots of money yet, not broke yet.

Interesting last comment. Are you saying most farmers have enough equity they can self insure versus something like crop insurance? Losses from a individual year should be covered by refinancing using land as equity?

I was amazed in the early 80's to watch $1 million business with $900,000 worth of equity get converted to a $700,000 business with $400,000 worth of equity over 3 years (3 years in row of $100,000 business losses plus loss in land/depreciation). Not saying it will happen. Just a note that it has it in the past and to be carefull what you ask for.
