They may want your grain now, but not if prices drop and they have a good crop. Viterra and Cargill have cozy deals with the railways, good luck moving more than a B-train. There is also a shortage of grain haulers so be prepared to get your own B-train and spend your time on the road. Better get all your paperwork done so you have no trade problems at the border and you receive proper payment at your destination. These are only minor short term issues. There are longer term problems that would have to be addressed. There is a growing linlage between grain companies and production contracts. This will limit your so-called arbitrage.

Agstar why is it possible for Canola,Flax,Oats,Rye,Sunflowers, Ontario Wheat, especially Ontario wheat? These issues don't seem to too big of a deal there what makes you think western wheat and barley would be any different?
Same Same
You just threw up a whole lot of issues, some of which are not really issues at all, they are just procedures. But you seem to think these are real hurdles, obstacles that can't be dealt with, but they're not. Nothing you said would impede trade from occuring.
But you know what Agstar, if the CWB really gave a damn about helping farmers they would be out front helping smooth these precieved obstacles and the transition towards an open market, but you know as well as I that the only thing the CWB cares about is the CWB itself and as far as the cwb is concerned helping farmers sell into ND,Minnesota or Montana is not in the cwb's best interest so they throw up road blocks instead.

What is a "so-called export permit"???
I have heard of export permits. Every other place in canada gets them free for the asking to ship their grain.
Do you get them from the so-called corporation?
I guess he is suggesting that export permits don't really exist so just stop talking about them.

Something everyone, (especially Minister Ritz) should know about export licences can be found in Jackson v. CWB [1997] where Judge Rothstein (now Supreme Court) stated:
"I need go no further to be satisfied that the Canadian Wheat Board can be characterized as a corporation with significant public interests which involve THE CARRYING OUT OF GOVERNMENT POLICY." [...] and "The Board is to engage in the granting of export licences for the PURPOSES OF CARRYING OUT GOVERNMENT POLICIES"

Thanks Raven!
That is right... the CWB can issue Pedigreed Seed export licenses... no pecuniary benefit enured... no charge... no problem. Same goes for Processed Feed products leaving the D.A.
"Designated area" Pedigreed Wheat and Barley historically moved globally under previous CWB export licenses... with no problem... multi-nationals didn't hemmorage... the world kept spinning... and the CWB still exists.
Ontario de-regulated... the CWB kept on selling wheat to Ontario Millers... the growers didn't undercut the CWB into oblivion... the HRS wheat price is the highest in history.
Soft White Wheat prices have never been higher...(over $16/bu PNW) and the CWB can't be blamed for the rising prices... they hardly have a kernel of free stocks to export.
Strange Agstar77... how the CWB are the first to drop their pants and lower the PRO... if the futures or Cash Market falls. Remember 1996? Remember Jan 2003? Pool deficit... and the CWB was there to keep the wheat market from dropping... LLLOOOOOLLLL!
The Bluff is up. Canadian Canola proves patient and disciplined canola growers get more than US Canola growers... and it is going to be difficult to justify why wheat should be any different!
AND the BASIS AGSTAR77 the $3.30/bu ABOVE MGE futures... would go to those "designated area" growers who decided to sell their wheat! NOT the CWB POOL ACCOUNT.
Why exactly would this be unfair... Agstar77?
