See price for Glenn wheat, a U.S. variety, at a five dollar per tonne premium to Carberry.
Presume it has to do with bread making quality and value.
Sort of a slap in the face to Canadian grain commission and variety approvers.
To their credit, they allow us farmers to grow the stuff.

Do you think it's time for a north American standardization for grains like wheat?

With all due respect hopalong, $5/tonne is a joke. I bet the handling company who buys and segregates it for Warburtons is making A LOT more than $5.00 premium over "generic" wheat!

Local elevator quotes Warburton Carberry at program premium of $15, $25 by July.
Glenn is $20 and $30.
Yes Bucket, have long supported continent wide grades and standards where practical.
Fly in ointment is politics and nationalism where beureaucrats and politicians convince us that our own system and standards are superior to others.

What's your opinion as to why it doesn't happen. ?

Falling number is industry standard everywhere else.

We go with visual which is essentially buyers discretion.

Watch the grain companies will deduct this year for two high protein! So far my av is 16.5.
Our system is f$&ked for grading

Our visual is an indication of falling #. The problem is that there is no universal/standard training for graders and this gov't has undermind farmer protection by doing away with inward inspection and not checking elevators for grading accuracy or implmenting Grain Act to fine buyers when grade wrong.

There is a difference as to how grain is viewed from grain cos to Canadian farmers and how grain cos show grain to customers. CA grain cos show on specs but buy from us on the old system. It's a hangover from changing from the Board system to the non monopoly era.
