    Roto shears

I see lots of used roto shears for sale. What is everyones experience with them? Another gimmick or would not go without them?

Wouldn't go without. Put them on new macron 155s. If you have a small crop there isn't any need

If you have a lot of issues with wads of canola or other crops hanging up on your dividers they would be worth it, if the price is right.

      What is the cost?

They are simple and work well, take some hydraulic flow being diverted to run them.
We have one swather with and one without and get by with both.

Absolutely no need here this year. We had an old Keer Sheer on an old IH swather years ago, finally cleaned it up and sold it last year----excellent shape. WAY TOO HEAVY.

Happy with our roto shears... can get away with one side if trying to save cash... then cut going into lean with the roto... and away with the divider. Both our macdon machines have both dividers... worth it to be able to cut any way without bunches if careful.

Most years canola would not be without.
Most used swathers I see have had them plumbed inadequately and damaged some component on swather.

Never had shears of any kind, just cut from the right end of field because they all lean by harvest. Usually E to W. Macdons since 1997. Or maybe our crops are always crappy?

We are new at the Canola game. Lentils have historically been our salvation. Guess we're a little late to the party. What other suggestions do you have to make cutting easy and swaths smooth? We'll be rigged up this year.
