My brother in law has a courier service in Regina, a start up from zero. Been going more than afew years now. He is paying his 15 year old daughter to do "stuff" around the office. You should see his fuel "surcharge", I'll have to ask him today when I see him if it went down when fuel costs dropped.

Parsley. i take offence to your notion that the way you farm is sustainable and conventional farming is not. Let's have literally the whole world go organic and see how many people could eat. As for you time spent in the sun comment how many people outside of farming put 400 hour months in? Most unions want the work week to go to 35 hrs and want more benefits on top. So your saying a person can't go spend a month or two in Phoenix? Shows your attitude to how pathetic the business of farming is that you can't afford a holiday. Brutal

I'd cash mine if I got it and turn around and redistribute it back into the economy! Plus it would be income so I'd pay tax on it to.
You guys need to get over yourselves and realize that when you look at the big picture a $75-100 an acre injection into the primary producers pockets would go a long way in the economy and would help a lot more than just the farmers affected by drought.

We need to have a rally at Mosaic stadium too! 30,000 farmers in support of each other. This would send a message to our elected mla's and mp's that injecting cash into the farmers pockets will help all in the economy. Or we could wait for a couple more years till things go to complete shit and do it anyway! Weather goes in cycles...... ten years of excess moisture now maybe ten years of below normal moisture. I wonder what will happen if 2015 is the turning point. Rally may be sooner than some of you think!

Maybe the great Western Canadian Farming Experiment isn't over yet? Opened up at the end of the 1800s, quarter section per family, many left the harsh environment, some died naturally(early and prematurely) and some died by their own hand. And some retired and sold or handed it down. To this day they still haven't found equilibrium.
Not enough people appreciate "not" being hungry. I have never been hungry because of there not being enough to eat. Full bellies can go a long way to keeping civil peace. Remember what the **** is important here: food, clothing, shelter and security.

This thread is not about agronomics, vvalk; it is clearly about financial sustainability. When every inch of land is cleared, and 100 bu/ acre crops are the norm, the input costs will continue to be a farmers' primary worry. Capice? So pack up your sense of high-vvalkoffence in your old kit bag, and smile smile smile, as the old song goes. Parsley.

I didn't get a check in '88, high interest fushed me out in '85/'86, and yes I left the "L" out of flushed on purpose.
Was flat busted with 3 kids.
If farming is no good, you can probably sell out for a decent price yet. Lots want to buy land and get into this very miserable business.
