Free I scout my fields every chance I get that's part of farming! No one is telling me to spray or not! But if it stays in this dryer pattern we are looking at other ideas! Why go balls to the wall if it doesn't rain! A awesome looking puss poor yielded makes you sleep better! Ha what a joke! Study see what it needs and go accordingly! Funny I don't like waste and last night going home after our first full nice spring rain a neighbour was spraying all his canola liberty! Ah no rain all spring finally rain then weeds come full force! What cry to company your spray didn't work! Why guys don't get some things about plants heat rain etc! But waste and wonder why!
Simply the guy that spends the most never wins the guy that spends where needed always does!
Have a great day! Omega blocker still in place!

bucket, yes it is. Not a drop this year and none in forecast. Its a big area.

But, we can't predict the weather so we wait and hope.

Crusher, we all put in good seed, fert, and weed management. Beyond a squirt of fungicide maybe, there isn't much more to do.

i get to spray the canola again,
good thing the flea beetles came along,
i could have swore i put Rdp. in the first time.
sure don't look like it in spots.

the peas on the high ground look good.
the lower areas are white and pale.
from sitting in the freezer for a month.
hate it but tempted to live with the 4 canola and 3 lambs quarters per sq. yard. and just take out the cereals.
if it had been hot we would be done by now.

        gotta look on the brightside.
still have a chance and the canola in the bin gets more valuable every day.

Farmaholic , with multiple passes of tillage, my cost of production is near that of a conventional farm. The gains are made on the market price. I still try for high yeilds because the reward (contract with act of God) is waiting for me at harvest time.
I dont think of it as saving. There is a cost to organic farming. If i spray my land now. Bye bye certification. Back into the conventional market competing with some of the best farmers in Canada. Thats just too much for me to handle.

vvalk - Northeast of Medicine Hat near Acadia Valley. Other then a few very spotty showers last week we have had nothing this year. About 10 percent of our farm had 2 tenths, nothing on the rest. No rain in the 14 day forecast.

hobby just keep doin what you are doin - everyone has their place in this game. I like your approach to what goes on around you, you get it. Many others on either side get far too blinded by their own ambitions and ego's.

Furrow, agreed . I have good neighbors. Just because we operate in two different models doesnt mean we dont get along as people.
Its just farming, were not drilling for oil or selling new cars.

Wouldn't you feel it's right to explain to your neighbours young son that his jumping the gun cost him money because he didn't wait! If he respects your judgement he will think about it so what he wants but if he does lose money and has to spray three times he has life lesson 2041!
It's about keeping our young farmers around! If we lose th again we're going to be screwed!

Giving it all it needs here. Fields around here terrible dirty. Weeds and volunteers just starting to appear the last week full force ahead. Too cold of ground, and anywhere from 1.25-2.25 inches in last two weeks will do that i guess.

SF, those things are none of my business. If I impose my thoughts on the neighbors son and then my june planted crops freeze in August, that would make me look rather pretentious. The Dad will explain things in the right time.
I dont mind talking about the details of the weather and how this has played out, but your seldom "wrong" at farming. You make the best decisions you can with the information you have at the time. Its a very tough occupation . That is why I always refer to the majic 8 ball for the most important farm decisions.
