Moving Machinery

Do we need a public awareness campaign for spring and fall when we are moving equipment down roads and highways? Or is this a "watch what you ask for" topic? People need to be patient. Once a train of a seeding unit(can be a tractor, drill, aircart then possibly liquid or anyhrous tanks) is coming down the road, there is no backing up.

What would two units do if they met without any approaches to turn off and let.one pass? Have someone scout ahead like flag vehicles?

When we move west of town in the hills wifey runs the pickup to the next intersection for me. Way safer.

No problems drive like you own the road. I do avoid my provincial road one for traffic two for potholes. never an issue in all my life lots of approaches.

Agstar: That wouldn't be us.... most of ours is in a block. 4.5 miles from the northern most edge to the southern most edge and less east/west. Just a bit that isn't touching. Only a mile of highway but I hate that mile when I have to be on it. The other day a motorist couldn't have got any closer to the back of the aircart. All flashers, brakeslights AND signal lights working..... there has to be some public awareness!!!!!!

Have to agree with farmaholic.

We farm land along a highway and the May long weekend crowd heading to and from lakes was ridiculous.

Something is needed to address this safety concern.

We have a 'pilot' vehicle behind to help with those folks that are impatient. I stop when meeting anyone in the place of my choosing. Good to have cell numbers of neighbours (with seeders) who might be met on the same road. Be slow, no need to hurry... if the rig is stopped... it would be hard for anyone to blame the farmer. And yes... stay of highways if at all possible (take side roads).

BTW, flashing lights and signals on all of the seeder units at extremities.
