CNCP Rail Performance Week 38 2014/15

The Ag Transport Coalition released the railway performance measurement update for Grain Week 38.

The report covers 90% of grain movement originating in Western Canada.

The weekly report details railway performance for the current grain year across a range of key indicators including rail car demand, railway car supply, timeliness of railway car supply in response to weekly customer orders, unfulfilled shipper demand, corridor performance, railway dwell times at origin and railway dwell times at destination.

Key figures from Grain Week 38:

o CN and CP supplied 4,894 (51%) of the 9,632 hopper cars ordered for delivery in Grain Week 38, representing a shortfall of 4,738 cars for Grain Week 38 orders.
o CN spotted 54% of the hopper cars that were ordered for Grain Week 38.
o CP spotted 48% of the hopper cars that were ordered for Grain Week 38.
o CN’s loaded dwell times for multicar block traffic at country origin locations averaged 33 hours while CP’s loaded dwell times averaged 69 hours.
o CN fulfilled 59% of orders in non-bulk corridors including the USA/Mexico
o CP fulfilled 10% of orders in non-bulk corridors including the USA/Mexico

    Key YTD figures:

o 4,800 customer orders – approximately 47% of unfulfilled orders - have been outstanding for 4 weeks or longer.
o 35% of all bulk grain shipments have waited for more than 48 hours at origin for pick up by the railways after being released by shippers for movement to destination.
o To date, the railways have supplied 47% of customer orders in the week for which cars were ordered:

§ Railways cars not supplied in the week they ordered results in:
    · Lost sales – sales that cannot be recovered as international buyers will obtain this grain from suppliers outside Canada.
    · Deferred sales - may be filled by the grain company using cars supplied by railways later in the year but deferred sales can result in extra costs to the supply chain through higher inventory carrying costs, payment of contract penalties by shippers, payment of ocean demurrage for waiting vessels and loss of goodwill with overseas customers.

Past weekly reports can be found on the Ag Transport Coalition website www.agtransportcoalition.com

Ag Transport Coalition members look forward to advancing discussions with Government and collaboration with the railways on next steps to ensure that the rail transportation system is meeting the needs of Canadian businesses, contributing to their competitiveness and supporting economic growth throughout Canada.

    * The Ag Transportation Coalition is comprised of the Canadian Canola Growers Association (CCGA), the Alberta Wheat Commission (AWC), Pulse Canada, the Manitoba Pulse Growers Association (MPGA), The Western Grain Elevator Association (WGEA), the Canadian Oilseed Processors Association (COPA), the Inland Terminal Association of Canada (ITAC) and the Canadian Special Crops Association (CSCA).

Congrats on your wonderful Annual meeting in Calgary last week CP Rail CEO Hunter Harrison! Since you offer to pay more taxes...
(In return for Alberta's new ND opposition to Oil Pipe Lines I assume)

Perhaps then you would take the 'Writ of Redemption' off my farm land for funds that are NOT owed by me to CNCP???

And I give Tom some credit for also standing up for a whole lot of others who choose not to stand up for anything.

But really who cares except for maybe a very few.

Too bad we'll never understand what was stood up for.

The lesson is that if everyone stood up; then Tom et al wouldn't be the only ones standing up.

And the message might well differ from what Tom (and a very few others) might be preaching.

We do get the representation we deserve. Very few working at preserving what used to be democratic principles.

A "like button" is not what your hunger strike posts require. Consistency in the beginning would have helped your cause. The "like button" is for Facebook have put your story out there as well?
