Another election

Keenly watching the UK results coming in just now. Predictions are the Conservatives will again be the leading party but probably not with a majority.

The real story is the expected SNP takeover of Scotland. After voting "NO" in the independence referendum last September predictions are that the SNP (the nationalist party pushing independence) will move from having 6 of the 59 seats to having 58 of the 59.
Got to equal Alberta's election for drama and certainly more of a lunatic takeover.

Yeah, happy I'm here. One of the reasons I am here in fact.

Similar to the AB result a 20 year old politics student just got elected ahead of the former Shadow Home Secretary. Youth over experience - she is the youngest MP elected since the 17th century.

It was definitely a "throw the bums out" election.
Is the 20 year old NDP candidate you mentioned the one who posted herself on her facebook page giving the finger to the Canadian flag, or posing beside a marijuana leaf teashirt?

I can just imagine the uproar from the media if a right of center party had such poorly vetted candidates. Since its the NDP, all you hear is crickets, even after the election.

Who are they going put into cabinet? Marijuana plant knowledge might make you Ag minister material. Should be an interesting 4 years. Heaven help us.

Some of the most successful people I know have jaded pasts...done silly things...stretched the line. Perhaps that is why they are successful, they don't live inside the box......
Think most people have done some things they are not totally proud of later in life, some like Prentice do it later in life!

Totally agree Perfecho,

My point is that the media only cares about the past mistakes of right of center people.

Ranger, I think Grassy was referring to the British Election, not AB. The one you're talking about is a 27 year old who put her name in just so there would be an NDP candidate in that riding. She had no expectations of winning and becoming an MLA is a complete shock to her. Tells you something about how badly voters wanted the PC's out. BTW, you heard about this because the media did jump all over the story. Not sure what more you want. The real story today is The Canadian Tax Payers Federation demanding Prentice pick up the tab for the upcoming by-election in his riding. He bloody resigned before all the votes were counted. Talk about contempt for his supporters and the voters who did give him the seat never mind the statement that makes for how much respect our political leaders have for our nation and Democracy.

Speaking of the media, in the 2011 election both the Globe and Mail, and National Post threw their support for Harper. No tough question were ever ask by either of them during Harper's campaign, in fact question were limited to five per press gatherings. So I don't think they only remember mistakes of center right.

They took after Jack Layton when he had taken advantage of low income housing....
This is going to get me into a lot of trouble, but is a lefty less likely to take advantage...;-0
I think of the "lefties" I know, and they are the first to help out, more giving...etc.
Let me preface, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely...holds true for either side of the fence, left or right, but....by philosophy....????

I don't read the National Post much, but I have to disagree about the Globe, it's pretty well all Liberal all the time.

Duffy - overcharged on his expenses to the tune of 90,000 which he paid back. Villain
Layton and Chow, lived in taxpayer subsidized housing while drawing >$200,000 per year in wages (also from the taxpayer) some of which Jack spent at the local "rub & tug", no charges.
Media darlings.

Yeah, no bias here. /sarcasm
