Alberta Election... OUCH! Leaders Debate tonight!!!

I can't believe it... you would think it was April First!!!

"The leaders’ debate, hosted by Global Calgary’s Gord Gillies and Global Edmonton’s Nancy Carlson, will air less than two weeks ahead of the Alberta provincial election on May 5.

On Tuesday, Prentice cancelled his government’s plan to reduce the charitable donation tax credit.

The cut, introduced last month in the provincial budget, was to save $90 million a year, but had been criticized by opponents and charitable groups as punishing the needy in difficult economic times.

Then Prentice’s campaign bus was rear-ended by his security team’s SUV. RCMP say the collision happened Tuesday afternoon near Rocky Mountain House. The driver of the SUV was transported to hospital with minor injuries. The premier and eight others on the bus were not hurt."...

Wow! I wonder if they were distracted 'looking in the mirror' after reversing the decision to tear 'Charitable Giving tax credit' a new one!

Why isn't the Rebel Media acting as moderators for the debate?

I was surprised to hear that in order to receive a charitable donation tax credit, you don't necessarily need to donate money. Some people donate 'art' or a piece of land and receive huge credits. Is this true? If it is, I can see that the process is open to reduced tax revenue for the government. Alberta is trying to be fiscally responsible?

Charities rely heavily on the tax system. Socially conscious wealthy are motivated to give it to charity rather than govt to be wasted. Reducing burden on govt. Whatever it takes.

I thought Notley gave the best account of herself. Swan was very weak. Notley landed quite the blow on the WR leader with the revelation that he donated $10,000 last fall to the elect Prentice campaign. So Brian Jean didn't believe enough in the Wildrose to support them and thought Prentice as PC leader was the answer. I guess that puts him in the same camp as the floor-crossers.

Tom4, surprized to see you criticize the retraction of the charitable donation credit cut !! Our family gives way more to charity than some of our family and friends because we believe in supporting the less fortunate. The large charities do way more with the money than Gov't programs, ei High River/Calgary flood !

I think Mr Prentice went away MAD, He sure dont look cute and cuddly like good old Ralph did. I wonder how people scored the event.
Notly talked to much,Swan didnt realy have much to say Gene got boring on his 2500$ and we wont tax anyone,Prentice was getting flack from all sides and realy couldnt defend the past gov or the present one for that matter.
Has any one noticed how Prentice is the only con running? all his partners in crime are staying out of sight, even Mandel who was supose to be the darling of Health has only been seen 1 time.

                        Gofer,

Not in favour of the Budget $90M extraction out of Charitable donations... that Premier Prentice/PC did this in the first place grates on many folks including me. Perhaps you misunderstood what I actually meant. Thanks for the discussion. All parties are now clearly on side with this issue... which is great for Alberta!

                          Willy,

                          Thanks!

Interesting Debate! Premier Prentice did not come away with the big win he needed. Very likely the end of PC coalition with the left...Ms Notley is a much nicer socialist... than Mr Prentice!

Premier Prentice is untrusted... and proved to be as slick as a highway with a half an inch of freezing rain at minus 10.

We are in uncharted territory... and election night May 5 promises to change the political landscape in Alberta!

Wildrose Brian did what had to be done to hold their base. No Miracle. Not disappointed either.

Ed Stelmack was critisized for his debating skills, but he is head and shoulders above Brian Jean. Ms. Notley didn't know when to shut up when she was ahead after scoring a hit. Pammy Barret revisited .
