    New crop malt

    Hey a marketing question.
Local maltster has new crop pricing on production contracts. 2 months ago 10 bushel limit at $5.25 AOG. Now increased limit. Same 5-5.25 aog. Wheres your guess on new crop malt prices?

    Dunno but that's low.

We signed up 25bu/ac at 5.61 with AOG about 2 weeks ago.

Iceman. Have you ever lost a crop and had to buyout a contract?

Anyone who signs a Malt Barley contract without an AOG has way bigger balls than me.

AOG really is only good for the farmer. Usually way more available to pick from for the Maltsters than is needed. Cherry picking grain market the malt market is. Surprising what they'll make beer out of if all the quality sucks.

We kinda gave it up, yields sucked and protein too high. We've got it before. At high yields it pays pretty good but doesn't really work for us. Too much of a lottery and flaming hoops to jump through. Too many excuses why it didn't make it...

                No sarcasm, good luck fellows.

except the maltsters have another clause in their contracts besides AOG. Its called we do whatever the **** we want once the crop is in the bin.

Oldest trick in the malt book is to entice big acres with small contracts with a good price, then they have their pick come fall.

Ass kissing, schmoozing, face time, pr, marketing. Call it what you want its all the same thing. Depending on delivery point very much a people game.
Too many acres of it planted anyway.
I find it much easier now than in the past.
Klause, I would have to truck it 12 miles. Its a collection elevator for a malster instead of a malt house point. Often more motivated to turn the tonnes.
More interested in what the guess was for price this winter.
