Markets/Strategy

Any thoughts on the current crop markets and strategies that can be used (old and new crop)?

Four charts I am following:

June loonie

<a href="http://www.farms.com/markets/?page=chart&sym=RSK15">May canola</a>

<a href="http://www.farms.com/markets/?page=chart&sym=ZLK15">May soyoil</a>

<a href="http://www.farms.com/markets/?page=chart&sym=MWK15">May MGEX</a>

Loonie - sideways
Canola - making me nervous
Soyoil - shit show
MGEX - please form a bottom

I may dump some more canola if it retraces most of the recent high.

I got two texts this morning for old crop CPS - may book some basis. New crop basis is too crappy, futures not much better.

I thought it was a good sign that wheat held support last week. I'd like to convert some wheat to cash but basis targets haven't been hit and futures also need to bounce back to their highs (old crop).

I'm still encouraged by demand for old crop canola. We have 17 over for April and are hunting for some basis deals for June.

As far as new crop we have been able get good basis locked in on quite a bit of production. We're waiting on a threat to crops somewhere for a futures bounce. There's lots of time left.

Hopefully USDA tomorrow won't throw an asbestos blanket on things.

Come on Braveheart, pull the trigger at 50 cents above the last market high. Aim high. The dust is blowing around here already, sure to be a short crop next fall. Don't preprice any new crop, if you do you might have to go to the Futures and Options Casino to try and get some back. Know your limit......

Charlie, I just wonder if soymeal is more of a factor in the bean market than oil right now?

I sgree. Both soybeans and soybean meal have been holding up pretty well in spite of the south american harvest.

Charlie,

I find it surprising with all the Distillers dry grain from ethanol. What percent px is this corn ddg?

CEO Gord gave an amazing run down on our pulse markets; Our pulses can bring huge savings to the health care systems... which will be globally important going forward.

Gord spoke of the obesity problems in India that are becoming large... WHO telling us that our better fed people are getting too much carbs, not enough px... which causes weight gain problems... while the youth is malnourished.

Interesting perspectives.. for the future of needed cereal pulse blends to properly balance nutritional diets of our growing older population! Demand will only increase going forward for px... do you think this is starting to drive our markets now... already?

Tom - Good points from the meeting yesterday. Highlights the need to stay focused on the demand side/what the customer is wanting.
