Generally seed is worth about a dollar a bushel more than the commercial price of the grain, plus the levy or royalty that is paid to the plant breeder and variety owner.
This simply means that farm saved seed has an advantage of about $1.25 to $1.50/bu over seed bought from a seed dealer.
