    The Big Picture

Back in the days when you could actually buy an elevator with a replacement value of millions of dollars for a very few tens of thousands of dollars; thoughts commonly centered on negotiating for annual rents and the obvious other factors.

For those who attended the introductory "training session" co-sponsored by the major seller; there were was a bigger picture presented that added insights into how the new owners might fit into prairie grain marketing as well as what likely would be the consequences for acquiring adequate insurance.
It was an insightful experience in many ways.

Switching topics (but not themes) I would suggest that the Establishment of District Plans and the roles of Development Board Commissioners is a topic that next to no readers have any comprehension about; and certainly are not fully considering.

In fact; due to decades of electorate inattention; lapses in any attempt to address accountability and responsibility breakdowns; lack of training and poor habits all the way up to the council tables of most municipalities; we all all ill prepared.
Maybe even overwhelmed and deliberately led.
All one can say is that change is coming; and don't be totaly suprised if absolutely everyone doesn't notice some major changes that someone else decided had to be thrust on the base population.

As another example; it does appear that some farmers do recognize that they seem to get shit on; just about every time a major announcement is made.

Is the only answer to bury one's head deeper in the sand; or swallow without thinking what is obviously being pushed.

Well you could check with your elected representatives. Provincial MLA's might be best to start with; afterall it is their enabling legislation (Statement of Provincial Interest Regulations/2012) or just go to the Queen's printer (Sask) website and download the mere 17 pages.

Then you will know as much or more more than your local municipality elected officials. They will have been briefed at any SARM or SUMA convention that you paid to have them report back to the local level. Take into consideration the hospitality booths the night before and the chatter on the convention floor that may have interfered with their comprehension. Maybe even ask why it wasn't important that no one was informed (the accountability part of what is referred to as democracy).

And then of course another way would be to google Official Community plans; Establishment of District Planning Areas (EVEN JOINT Districts between a Town (and cities) and surrounding RM's). You can even read draft proposals from various jurisdiction; all at various stages from RM Sherwood's only partially approved example to those at 1st reading to the Lloydminister/Wilton/Brittania example.

Don't necessarily assume this doesn't apply to your local community. This is being done with real changes in mind. Its done with real teeth and all necessary departments already inline and with their own 25 year plans established. And make no mistake; your next grant and whether you are even perceived as going to survive is intended to depend on how a minister decides it dovetails in with the Statement of Interest Regulations/2012.

Does that help? If not what part do you not understand?

Don't at all feel bad about being in the dark. Thinking at this level is so foreign to democracy at this level that a turnout of a dozen people or more is considered quite in line.

Would it suprise anyone that Public meetings come off without even one council member present and it doesn't raise a single eyebrow????? How would anyone know? and more importantly; why doesn't anyone care???

Still no coments. No wonder farmers are so easily taken advantage of.
