My thoughts were messily written, brave.

Canada has been a very peaceful nation. French , English and aboriginals have lived side by side without riots and killings and skirmishes such as those that rocked Ireland.

All of us have lived peaceably beside our neighbours because we choose to do so.

But there is a sense of uneasiness in our land today and it is because of the Islamists who have immigrated to Canada, and the honour killings and terrorist strikes begin

I don't think the Multicultural Act would get a second reading in Canada in 2015. Do you, brave?

Aboriginals indeed had terrible times in residential schools, but they also know that in 2015 that they can choose to worship or to not worship. In their religion of their choice. Or no religion. No woman, including aboriginals, or French or Scottish, well, no women, should be legally viewed as property by any religion; after all, we do have the Rule of Law in Canada to punish it. Pars

Mark Steyn's comments, re the Charlie Hebdo slaughter, are very clear:

"Attempting to mediate relations between free people and Islam will not work. Islam either has to get on board with the whole freedom of speech thing or it cannot participate in pluralistic western democracies. It's as simple as that." Pars

Not all muslim states or people practice Sharia law or its more conservative form of wahhabism.

Not so sure what the comment on participating in Western pluralism means. Most of the islamic is outside the developed world with a completely different set of experiences and values than we have. They do have access and know how to use the full array of western/developed world technology including social media.

She would either be the current dictator or stoned long ago.

Rockpile possibly that would be a bad investment for a muslim. Better to keep the 2 camels and goat. Ok joking aside are these people not trying to change? When you become a canadian citizen afer 5 years and if you still want to you pledge some sort of ellegiance to canada. Kids born hereare canadians.

Throughout this thread I should have made it clear I was talking about extremist Muslims. Extremists of any faith, sex, etc. are dangerous.

Our community was lucky to have had (for too short a time) a female Doctor that was a devout Muslim. She saved my wife's life by early diagnosing a dangerous and rare cancer. This woman was a skilled and caring Doctor.

To have seen her work close hand, it's hard to imagine a society that would not allow a woman the equal opportunity to pursue medicine, or for that matter anything that she would seek.

Parsley has good points, the Mark Steyn quote is bang on.

Sometimes the truth isn't pretty but it eventually will have to be dealt with head on.

Being part of our Western culture, Charliep, requires a belief in the right to free speech, the recognition of equality of gender, the protection of children, and the right to chose a religion without penalty. Few infidels want to be told, "Convert or die".

Islam itself, neither recognizes nor meets any of these requirements in countries where Sharia Law rules.

Islam is the moral guide for its' followers, but it promotes and dispenses Islamic doctrine, both moral and legal (Sharia Law), worldwide, from its' main centre of learning at their mother university in Saudi Arabia.

In other Islamic countries, where secularism bobs its' weary head, Islam often embraces Sharia Law as it's legal arm, albeit quietly, whilst working within secular surroundings. Women know it all too well. Parsley.
