    Klause

    Hello Klause,
Just wondering if you are running around the Humboldt area with your color sorter or Bio mill. I read somewhere that you have one or would be doing this work.
I am new to this site and don't know how to send a private message to a user so sorry about the request.

I don't have one. We are looking into setting a mobile unit up that can do 25 t/hr sorting out fuzz and ergot along with dark green frost.

Very busy lately so I haven't had much chance to review the quotes we got and layouts they gave us.

What were you wanting to sort?

I want to take Vomi out of malt barley. have some at 3 and 4 percent and need it down at 2 max but would prefer 1 percent.
        Roughly 70000 bushels to do.

Vomi out of malt... hoo... That's a tough one... Metcalf I take it? Is it visible?

Problem with barley is you have such minute amounts in crevices of the seeds that it's really hard to color sort out.

Doubt if it would make malt but if trying to get into feed I would see what happens with reg cleaning and try sizing through a 5 slot sieve. May get it down or at least blendable.

Just taking out the damaged kernels may not make the vomitoxin lower by much. Investigate further.

The durum screenings I sold had about 7ppm vomi if I remember correctly. Not quite twice the amount of the clean sample. I'm not home and don't have access to the records. So yes, just cleaning(taking out tombstone kernels) doesnt always cut it.

I would doubt cleaning the barley would make it malt unless it was the only barley left in Canada, lol.
