What their quoting is high. But yes they are for sure three dollars a lb. to high for what canola is trading for to sell.
The seed guys I deal with know I'm dropping acres because of seed costs by 2000 acres. Simply when they ask the price is to F&^%^king high for seed have a good day.

$11.60 for 5440, $12.10 for L252 With lumiderm. Also dropping acres 25-30% as its not worth the risk.

lumiderm at 1.80/lb= 8 bucks an acre why would you do that, might as well spray everything with silencer/matador for 4 bucks an acre.

Sticking to my usual 25% rotation. Offsetting canola input costs with more pulses, peas and faba.

Prices suck, but truly, what can we do? They got us... Can still make decent enough money at 9 bucks, if we get drier, more historical weather, and the associated more average yields.

Lots of other places to cut back on to help out a bit.

It is insane though. 1998 Invigor 2153 cost me 2.99 a lb, and actually performed back when liberty had some snap, and the genetics were IMO, honestly much better than now, other than lodging. Those plants used to pop out of the ground, and if you blinked you almost missed the cotyledon to ground cover stage. The stuff grew nuts. They lost that big advantage they used to have, IMO.

So yeah, we are paying 5 times the price for a poorer performing seed. Unless the weather was just that much better back in the drier years???
