Basically this just regulates certain treatments, certain ones are already only available to commercial treaters like gaucho, helix, prosper....

So sounds like status quo for on farm treating. Current products will continue to be available along with more and more generics.

I do agree with other comments tho, in the long run this is a play to force certified seed and limit farmer saved seed.

      bgmb:

      1: set up the regulations
2: classify all new products "designated"
3: de-register old products for "safety"
      reasons.
      4: reap the rewards....

Helix, Prosper, Lumiderm. Ya, I can buy those anywhere. A blind man can see this coming.

And once a few new varieties are out. Deregister all old ones.

Klaus is correct. In a prior life I was a seed treatment rep with Gustafson. We registered Baytan, which had some real strong activity on leaf disease. Problem was accuracy was extremely important to the point that we would only sell to certified applicators. I believe it was fairly hot and accuracy and seed safety was critical. Fast forward a few years and product died because it wasn't on farm apply able. Some of this is basically new chemistry with new requirements beyond what was the old EZTreater could achieve. To the point that the company had to let the product die instead of move it forward. I think that product was light years ahead of the seed treatments on mkt today and wonder if it doesn't have a huge fit today. I believe it had poor fusarium control which was the buzz word then, and today. And for the most part plays little to no part in fusarium levels in crop. But that's a totally different thread.

Basically this regulation puts about 5 more zeros behind the value of the patent. At a cost to us the producers.

The government is letting the chemical companies run the show. What else is new?
