    durum

Anyone want to discuss the price differential on durum between the US and Canada and the canadian graincos deal with US companies.

Or how about a positive basis that still has no fx in it. 5.80usd is 6.64 cdn plus the positive basis should have canadian wheat at close to 7 bucks.

Some open market I was stupid enough to buy into.

What differential? If your durum quality is strong enough, put it on a truck and head south. Nothing stopping you but you.

There is no doubt in my mind that durum prices are high in Canada because the border opened up. A lot of it is heading south this year, and the Canadian companies have to be competitive.

Last prices I heard were for a #3 12% protein. In the states was about $13/bu CAD and here around $12.

...deciding what to do about it, is the other half.

Farmers hauling durum into the states maybe coming to an end once the agreement goes into place between cdn and us grain companies.

That isn't what was supposed to happen with the open market. The price was to move north not the grain south.

No one uses that term arbritrage anymore.

Canadian graincos are not competitive. Factor in the fx and they are forcing farmers to look at other options just like the cwb did.

But they are using back room deals to slow border crossings as well. Just another play from the cwb play book.

You can get at least $11 for pretty crappy durum right now on this side of the border. If it wasn't for the open market my durum would probably be going for feed at $4.80 instead. I've never been so glad to be rid of the single desk buyer.

If you can find a railcar you can get higher, but find a railcar, another reason to do a CTA complaint! Producer car orders are as far back as a almost a year old in some cases. Go figure.

Yes well if you can find a railcar and load it 16.50 has been paid for number 1. Yes in Canada. Key is finding a railcar. Some folk are noting unfulfilled order approaching their first anniversary. Another reason to do a CTA complaint.. the process is open.
