How tough can you keep Canola?

We combined some 13% yesterday. Intend on going today. We have 10,000 bushel steel aeration bins. What's your experience?

Chances are you will develop hotspots .13 is high 11 is the highest I would go without drying. Be prepared to move it in a week or two.jmo

11 is as high as we go as well . that is a big bin it will heat after a couple weeks , but it dries real good at 13 .

You will want to keep a close eye on that. A couple of factors that can greatly affect storage time are seed maturity and temperature of the seed and ambient temp for your aeration system. Immature canola can be dynamite.

I'd feel confident if it was in the bottom of the bin and got air first. In the middle or at the top I'd be hesitant at 13%. I'd like to see 11% there.

That's only a few loads in the bottom of a full floor with a good fan.

Although contradictory to what I said on the other thread. Send it to the elevator. Take your cash if it heats your shit out of luck.

I was delivering tough canola last year with high green counts but they said keep coming best move I made.

Here I'd a easy answer air does shit all at these temps! You will stabilize but that size of bin don't miss a day checking it! Air doesn't move through cZnola like barley! 11 no problem 13 is probably 14 if your trusting your combine monitor! Ah farming isn't it fun! Also why take cSnola it comes through snow of rain and is first to go after a rain event!

Wow...13% moisture eh? One of our neighbors had a similar situation a few years back. When he went to empty it he had to use a chain saw to cut blocks of semi-solid material out of the contents of the bin. The smell was not too nice either.

At least that is the story I was told.
