    Friday Crop Report!

Well its that time of the week and again another interesting time.
The trade doesn't get this years crop and its sad. Information is not something Canada does well. Stats Canada is like ISIS in the Stone Age. Here we are going into the second week of Sept and Virtually shit all is harvested. Areas that should be done are just getting going. In our area guys are struggling with harvest.
Crop report for first week of September.
Soy my nice super crop needs three weeks to give the yield that make you stick out your chest and go that's a great year. Well if the frost hits next Tuesday were probably looking at our lowest yield in three years. Its awesome, tall and has about 14 to 20 pods. Oh well I will still keep trying with new varieties as its way better than peas. Pea buyers take note, maybe last year you screwed pea growers Acreage will be down and down hard in 2015. Time will tell. 21 days and counting.
Peas and Lentils, In our area its fricking pathetic. Yields in the 3 to 20 range. Now the great fields that were seeded are Flat two to three inches high and harvest from hell is happening. Heavy rain and wind did its job.
HRS is in its final days and whats their is shaping up not bad. Most have started to desiccate or are a week done already. Some swath still in our area but the Geese and Rain are doing them no favor. Late regrowth on hailed out needs two weeks and might have a hard time if frost hits next week. Grade that will be popular this year is #3 and Feed and Nonsaleable. Durum where guys did nothing is 50% gone.
Barley early that was harvested before the rain. Congratulations to you guys watch the weather, swath and three days later pick it up. Malt 1 OH 1. Rest who left it or swath it yesterday not a great plan, Feed. Late twisted thick stuff time will tell. Next Tuesday frost might only do minor damage.
Oats early is ready to swath or desiccate and take quick, one wind and shelling. Late is turning and might make it.
Corn in our area wont make it this year to late of a start and not filling next week will be done.
Flax the crop that actually looked so good seems to have something going on. One its twisted to shit all over the place. Two its went from green to yellow to brown or black color in five days. Not sure if it has something or just didn't fill well and is shutting down. Time will tell.
Canola swathing is taking place and spraying. Lots with hail damage and wind damage are just spraying out and will harvest strait. Its foot tall and flat so wind shouldn't shell this year. Funny thing about the 2014 canola crop its field to field, even across the road its puffed chest on one side to WTF on the other. Rain wind hail muddy seeding piss poor drainage you name it. Were finding every thing from great to piss poor. Funny expensive varieties with all their supposed super breeding that we pay way to much for their seed is no better than the dime store cheap variety. Maybe time to rethink these expensive variety. I think were getting sold recycled shit and paying a premium.
So to sum up the week vary little is harvested as guys concentrate on Winter Wheat or Peas and Lentils. No Canola or spring wheat that I know of is harvested. Rain on and off every few nights or afternoon has been the theme for the week. HRS tried was 25% moisture. That kind of tells the story. To swath or not to swath is the question. Some years it works some not so good. No sprouting yet but hey its to fricking cold. Desiccating is happening with a spare tractor on side road to pull you out when you sink.
Ah farming no one said it was easy other wise every one would do it. So be careful and get this one done because according to Drew its going to be a shitty Sept then Cold. I'm not going to say it but 57 days till the seasons done.
    Have a great week!

Combined 40 acres of wht..49 b/a after drying it..Viterra will buy it for a #2, and blend with old crop..If Drew is right the rest will be a sprouted, rotten mess by the time we get to it...

      9th rain in 16 days,over 5 inchesish.

Is it a bad idea to use the fatties on the sprayer for desiccation or chance the skinnies?

Putting fats back on tomorrow! If you get stuck the 4 wheel drive tramps way more! When it's this wet we adapt! It's awfull but even if we have to harvest when the ground freezes we get it done! Mud is a dud!

SF3, are you saying we should expect a Halloween trick!? Wouldn't be the first time we had a foot of snow on Halloween that never left till April.

cotton, are you worried about tramping down 4.50 wheat? 2.40 barley? I guess durum is worth more,,,if your in the top two grades.

We're about third done wheat now. Yields great, little to no ergot or fus, and 14.8% px. Remaining wheat still standing.

Tried some canola last night. Most of the field yielding 54 . Really tough to put through. Field down for 14 days was just dry but down for 15 days not, and not close. Bizarre.

              Little canola left to swath.

We need better weather. Bought a heater for one bin today to help. Some wheat is contracted to the US and needs to be 13.5% mois to avoid discounts. Good luck with that Braveheart!

Leaving son and wife to combine for the weekend. MB Cowboy Action Shooting championships beckon.

              Happy trails, y'all.
