grr Its called living in Canada. Weather controls how well your crop turns out not you.
No chicken little just stating a fact. Rain harvest equals grade issues.

Yes it's called living in Canada. Talk to some of the older farmers around you. Ask if they have ever had weather issues in all the years they have farmed. Maybe their answers will calm you down.

Time to retire sf3. If you don't like it, the risks, weather challenges, get out while land values are still high

The best time to sell the farm was last year.
We used try and harvest as much as we could and end of August. Usually contract a lot of feed barley and feed wheat.

In September it would rain enough to keep combine out of field for 3 weeks. Then finally go do the rest of it late sept, and October.

You can't sell the farm, what would Grandpappy say!!! Surely he must be rolling in his grave with just the thought of it.

Ya mine too hoped a family member farmed the land for ever. Fourth gen not so dumb to try this for 45 years and NOT be retired.

Generations ago it was more about survival. You burnt out from work. Now you burn out from both work and management. Those were harder times but much simpler times too.

fjlip, so you're saying no one to pass the torch to? Kids who'd own it but don't want to work it?
Not everyone has the constitution for it, it is a bit of a boom and bust rollercoaster ride for production and prices. Predatory Suppliers and Buyers. Joke is land is a great investment as long as you don't farm it. Nuts

Back on topic....wouldn't it be nice not to care what the weather does? Not saying any other business isnt affected by weather, but I think Ag is way more dependant and affected by it.
