They all kept the farmers share and divided the spoils. No trickle down, only crumbs for the peasants to keep them in business. Nothing ever changes, bulk commodity producers last to get paid, only if the rest of the chain has to, do they dangle a carrot.

Nothing stops us from going up the food chain.

One can crush his own canola and export oil. Fuel and human grades.

Likewise with wheat flour and whole oats etc.

Your right. I had a nice long talk with a very large farmer from Argentina. He said they don't sell any raw product. Own flour mill, CNL crusher and Butcher shop.
He said they would go broke if they sold into commercial system. Very interesting guy I think Canada has a lot of learning to do. Maybe can't implement all but some.

I thought about buying shares in the railways but my conscience wouldn't allow me to invest in a company that corrupt.

There are lots of investments that are good and are involved in agriculture.
Through a TFSA I do have a small amount of shares in Canadian Oil Sands, Alliance Grain Traders and one potash company.

Everything tried around here in the past years went broke, no thanks, eg Kelvington "peaola". Too small a fish swimming with mega corp sharks. Too close to retirement to risk it, but go for it young aggressive guys, you can do it.

Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Apple, Samsung are the new communication utilities.

Rail, Tele, Internet, Gas, Power, transportation co's are needed... but a new generation has changed our society. Grocery stores, Fast Food, Walmart... could be a type of utility system, delivering products to people.

                Interesting times!

Maybe we should approach walmart to get into the inputs supply to us. Like em or hate em they do provide products at a low cost. Our current suppliers are all crooks in my opinion. I could tell you things about our local independent dealer that would boil your blood.
